Japan helps Vietnam develop green housing model

A variety of Japanese businesses participated in a seminar on October 26 to discuss new financial mechanisms for applying energy saving technology to buildings and hotels.

Speaking at the event in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City Energy Conservation Centre Director Huynh Kim Tuoc revealed that about 35-40 percent of Vietnam’s total energy is consumed by buildings and hotels. About 30 percent of the figure could be reduced by taking advantage of energy saving equipment and technology, he said.

Representatives from Japanese firms introduced a number of innovative technologies aiming to increase energy efficiency.

Japan’s Mitsubishi Group and Viet ESCO announced their Bilateral Offset Credit Mechanism (BOCM), an initiative the companies have undertaken in a bid to reduce environmentally harmful emissions.

Buildings and hotels in Vietnam who decide to use the advanced technologies developed in Japan will be provided with a level of financial aid agreed on by both sides.

Japan and Vietnam will now consider and select partners for proposed energy saving projects as scheduled.
