Ba Ria – Vung Tau Boosted Energy Efficiency in Manufacturing Enterprises

Ba Ria – Vung Tau is famous for oil and gas potential with large oil mines and simultaneously one of the centers of energy, heavy industry, tourism and deep-water harbors in the country. Therefore, the efficient use of energy has been actively implemented, particularly in manufacturing enterprises.

Ba Ria – Vung Tau is one of the provinces having high energy consumption. Located in the Southern Key Economic Zone, Ba Ria – Vung Tau is famous for oil and gas potential with large oil mines and simultaneously one of the centers of energy, heavy industry, tourism and deep-water harbors in the country. Therefore, the efficient use of energy has been actively implemented, particularly in manufacturing enterprises.

Training in energy management for enterprises

On October 09, 2015, Department of Industry and Trade of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province was in collaboration with Green Energy and Service Company Limited to hold a training workshop on advancement in abilities of management and operation of energy system for industrial manufacturing enterprises in areas of the province. This activity is part of the action programme of Department of Industry and Trade in order to achieve the implementation of Law on economical and efficient use of energy.

The goal of training is to help these enterprises enhance the abilities of management and operation of equipment system using energy, gain access to advanced energy-saving solutions, and concurrently execute in accordance with the regulations of Law on economical and efficient use of energy, etc.

Application of energy efficiency in manufacturing enterprises

The enterprises with heavy energy consumption in Ba Ria – Vung Tau attach special importance to application of energy efficiency in manufaction.

Pomina Steel Mill 3, the enterprise in the list of heavy energy consumption, bravely invested $300 million in building an automatic factory system with the latest European technology, saving energy considerably manufacturing process. In addition, Pomina 3 built modern and closed dust, air, waste filtration systems. Accordingly, exhaust emissions and solid dust in the manufacturing process going through the air filtration system are all retained. Sewage is treated to be reused in accordance with standards. At the present, Pomina Steel Mill 3 with new production line only consumes 350kWh/tons of power, while the indicator for power consumption of other steel mills in Vietnam currently is 600kWh/tons.  

The second typical plant running application of energy efficiency in Ba Ria – Vung Tau is Phu My Plastics and Chemicals factory. This enterprise made a “light revolution” by replacing all 250MW lights with 80W compact lights and installing transformers in pumps and fans, etc. With these solutions, this enterprise saves 1,600W, equal to VND2 billion of electricity bills in each year.

Vung Tau Imex Garment Joint Stock Company, Dong Xuyen Industrial Zone (Vung Tau City) saves 30-40% of power production in each month more than it did in a few years ago. Power cost falls from VND60 million per month to VND50 million per month through replacing whole lighting system with Compact lights, LED lights and using mobile computerized sewing machines connected to power-saving devices. Additionally, instead of air-conditioners, automatic air-cooling systems along with ventilators and steam -ejecting technology of the US are installed on the inside walls of factories in the company.

After propaganda and advertisement for economical, efficient and safe use of power, replacement of incandescent lamps with compact lights in households and offices, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province achieved satisfactory results. In the first seven months of 2015, the province saved nearly 37 million kWh. With the target of saving at least 2.1% of commercial power, the province strives for fulfilling plan of 2015, saving more than 59 million kWh.

From now to the end of this year, the goal set by Department of Industry and Trade and Power Company of Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province is to save at least 30 million kWh of power. For the enterprises having heavy energy consumption in areas of the province, Ba Ria – Vung Tau Department of Industry and Trade continues to organize training workshops on advancement in abilities of management and operation of energy system. In which, Ba Ria – Vung Tau Department of Industry and Trade focuses on introduction to regulations for industrial manufacturing enterprises under the Law on economical and efficient use of energy; introduction to energy management system pursuant to standard ISO50001, energy audit procedure; solutions and new technology of economical and efficient use of energy in the industry.
