After 1.5 years of building Long Phu Power Center infrastructure (Phase 1), until now, Long Phu 1 thermal power plant project invested by the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group has basically completed infrastructure works.
Works such as leveling an area of 251ha, building bypass road south of Hau river, compensating and site clearing, resettling 315 households… have been completed. The constructions of roads, electricity system, water supply system, embankments along Hau river in the plant construction site and coal slag dumping area ... are being expeditiously implemented to be completed on schedule.
According Mr Ho Cong Ky, head of project management board, the management board of Long Phu Power Project has been accelerating the progress to complete the construction of infrastructure on schedule, so that in December 2010, Vietnam Oil and Gas Group will start building Long Phu 1 thermal power plant and strive to complete and operate unit 1 in April 2014, operate unit 2 in October 2014, one year earlier than expected.
Long Phu Power Center - Soc Trang lies within the overall power scheme VI, approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, consisting of Long Phu 1, Long Phu 2 and Long Phu 3 thermal power plants, built in Long Duc commune , Long Phu district (Soc Trang). The three plants have the total capacity of 4,400MW.
The entire sector has an area of 420.5 hectares, located next to Hau River, 30km from Tran De seaport towards the lower section and 20km from Soc Trang city towards the East.
The total cost for building Long Phu Power Center is estimated to be $ 5 billion. The project will be implemented from 2010 to 2017.
