According to the Vietnam Electricity Corporation, electricity shortfall in the first 6 months of 2011 shall be over 2 billion kWh, while demand for electricity consumption in the country is still increasing. Therefore, power shortage in the near future will still occur regularly in localities in particular and throughout the country in general. For Thai Nguyen, in 2008, Thai Nguyen provincial People's Committee issued Directive No. 11/2008/CT-UBND, dated Sept 4th 2008 on the implementation of energy saving in the province. The Directive clearly stated that the use of equipment in offices, workplaces, and other production facilities should be reduced and in particular, the propaganda in the community about energy efficiency and conservation must be strengthened.
Steel production, one of the most power consuming sectors in Thai Nguyen
Along with the province’s implementation of electricity saving measures, Thai Nguyen Power Company is one of the units that have positively deployed measures to reduce power losses, such as thoroughly repairing defects of the grid; improving low voltage grid in rural area; adjusting the voltage at the points according to diagram; completing a project to upgrade 6-10 kV lines to 22kV; closing operation of all medium - low voltage capacitors... Especially now, the company is completing some projects such as: increasing the voltage of the power grid behind Chua Hang station to 22kV; increasing the voltage of the power grids behind Phu Luong and Pho Co stations to 22kV; building power supply for Quan Trieu Cement Plant... with the total investment of up to over VND 51 billion.
Besides the efforts of electricity industry, the issue of power
saving in manufacturing and life today has always been very urgent since "supply"
is not enough to meet "demand". As the power supply is facing many difficulties,
each agency, business, family needs to thoroughly save electricity and should
limit the use of high capacity devices in peak hours. Even a small act like turning
off electrical devices while not in use also contributes to significantly reducing
electricity curb... According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lam – head of Power Management
Office, Department of Industry and Trade, previously, power saving focused mainly
on saving electricity for public lighting, activities and for use in administrative
and professional bodies ...
Recently, industrial units in the province have not only raised the awareness of energy saving in the process of production but also accelerated research to improve and rationalize technological line to reduce power consumption per product unit. Key energy consuming companies in the field of metallurgy, mining, such as Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel joint stock Corporation; Thai Nguyen Nonferrous Metals Co., Khanh Hoa Coal Company... have applied energy saving measures at each production stage.
All the efforts of all levels, industries, enterprises and communities have brought practical results in power saving in Thai Nguyen. In 2010, Thai Nguyen saved about 13 million kWh of electricity, including more than 4 million kWh saved from public lighting, approximately 3.1 million kWh saved from daily life lighting, nearly 2 million kWh saved from administrative and professional bodies and nearly 7.4 million kWh saved from industrial production and construction. In 2010, to increase GDP by 1%, the whole country had to increase power consumption by 2.14%, while Thai Nguyen only had to increase power consumption by 1.163%, lower than the national average.
In 2011, energy saving has become even more imperative for each ministries, branches and localities. To achieve targets of power saving, efforts and sense of responsibility of each individual, unit and enterprise in the province of Thai Nguyen are very necessary.
