With support from the National Program on Energy Efficiency and Conservation and the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), Viettronics Thuduc Limited Company (VTD), member unit of Vietnam Electronics and Informatics Corporation (VEIC), has developed and put into trial operation the first high-tech LED producing facility in Vietnam in Saigon hi-tech park.
Being known for its many advantages and applicability in many areas, but in Vietnam, LED lighting technology is still unfamiliar. The reason is partly due to its high costs and unpopularity to most consumers.
LED lighting technology has just been present in Vietnam for a few recent years. Most of domestic producers just import Led from abroad and then assemble in Vietnam. Therefore, the price of LEDs compared with the average consumption level in Vietnam is still quite high.

New Light LED Technology Co., Ltd (ASAMLED) has been established to chair the project. Investment objective is to establish a plant which manufactures energy saving and environment protecting high-tech LED lights for industrial and civil use. The total cost of the project is VND 400 billion, including VND 5 billion subsidized by the MOIT. Currently, some first Led products have been launched to the market.
Mr. Nguyen Van Long, an expert of Energy Efficiency Office, Ministry of Industry and Trade, said "LED is the leading lighting technology in the world today in terms of lighting efficiency and energy efficiency. In Vietnam, LED lighting technology has not been widely applied because the price is still expensive. The introduction of ASAMLED hopefully will contribute to rapid popularization of this technology, to energy saving in lighting in particular and energy saving for the country in general".
Mr. Duong Minh, General Director of VTD, said "ASAMLED was established due to the inevitable trend of the development of advanced renewable energy sources to replace traditional sources of energy. We hope the success of ASAMLED project will improve the technology ability of domestic businesses, build a supply chain of LED industry in Vietnam as well as help minimizing power outages in Vietnam in recent times.
While the energy shortage crisis is becoming severer and severer, the use of LED lighting products can reduce 10-15% of national electricity consumption.
