Power saving is a key and regular task of power sector

In the first seven months of 2011, Dong Nai has saved 56 million kWh of electricity, 64% of the plan of the whole year which is 82 million kWh. In addition to the efforts of Dong Nai Power Co., Ltd, the enthusiastic response, sympathy and sharing of all parts of the society also have to be mentioned.

In addition to the efforts of Dong Nai Power Co., Ltd, the enthusiastic response, sympathy and sharing of all parts of the society also have to be mentioned.
According to Pham Viet Ai, Sales Manager of Dong Nai Power Company, if customers do not actively support energy saving policies, the target of saving 82 million kWh of electricity in 2011 in the province can hardly be completed. In fact, the demand for electricity for production and business activities of customers is huge. Meanwhile, not everyone is sympathetic to the power sector on the weather situation and power shortages, especially in the dry season. However, in recent times, recognizing the importance of power saving, businesses and residential areas have shared the burden with the electricity industry in all circumstances to reduce unnecessary power consumption.
Mr. Ai said that power saving is considered the key and regular task of power sector as well as of business units and residential areas. In recent times, many industrial producers and lighting system management units have been actively cooperating with the Power Company to effectively implement power saving. Specifically, many businesses have made plans to save power to reduce production costs. Statistics show that, in the 2010-2011 dry seasons, Dong Nai province has had 79 customers equipped with generators. In addition, 445 customers with monthly power consumption of 100,000 kWh have applied power saving measures. Many factories and business units have implemented effective solutions such as: installing inverters for high capacity pumps; replacing power supply for air conditioners; turning off unnecessary lights and other electrical equipment…
Besides, media agencies have cooperated closely with Dong Nai Power Company in bringing information on power saving to all the people. Thereby, examples of power saving have emerged from factories, administrative offices and households. However, some units and people still underestimate the importance of power saving. Therefore, electricity waste is still occurring in many places.
According to the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), to perform the task of ensuring adequate supply of electricity in the last months of the year, the power sector is facing many difficulties. As predicted, the rate of water flow in hydropower reservoirs in the last four months of the year shall reach only 65%. Therefore, the electricity industry has made backup plans for the load demand for 57.880 billion kWh, 10% higher than the same period of 2010. Meanwhile, at that time, the demand of the country shall increase by 931 million kWh, and hydropower production will reduce by 4,508 billion kWh since the water must be accumulated for the dry season next year. The solution is to mobilize all oil-fired power sources to produce 3.105 billion kWh. However, the actual operation in recent times has shown that the oil-fired mode of gas turbines is often unstable and unreliable. The power system has no backup sources, while the operation of power plants, transmission lines and substations are very tense and easy to break down. However, even when the sources operate normally, under the backup plan, the total lack of electricity in the last months of the year shall be up to 467 million kWh, mainly in the South in Sep and Oct. To ensure the best supply of electricity in the last months of the year, there is one way to limit power cut: customers need to save power. EVN is directing units to focus on accumulating as much water as possible for southern hydropower reservoirs (Tri An, Ham Thuan, Da Nhim, Dai Ninh, Thac Mo) to mobilize for the South in the coming time.
Experiences in the implementation of power saving in Dong Nai province in recent times have shown that that if each household just replaces incandescent bulbs with fluorescent bulbs; administrative and professional units just cut one light bulb in the workplace, power consumption will be significantly reduced.
