Separated from a garment factory in Hung Yen Garment Company, Hung Long JSC was established in 2001, having only 540 workers for the start. Over 10 years, the company now has over 2400 workers with 29 production lines in 10 factories. With a growth rate of 30 -40%, company’s profit rate is always one of the highest in the garment business.
With constant operation of 10 workshops, the company’s power consumption is very large, about 270 thousand kWh month in which lighting systems consumes the most with more than 5400 kinds of bulbs. Mr. Do Dinh Dinh, general director of the company said "We are strongly aware of the importance of energy efficiency towards cost savings, product quality improvement and production environment enhancement. With this understanding, the company’s management always cares about and is willing to support investment in energy efficiency.
Decisive polices
"The user's consciousness is very important. Let alone equipment investment, management and supervision of energy consumption can save considerable amount of costs", Mr Nguyen Quoc Toan, Head of the company's electrical department stresses.
With that thought, the first thing the company implements for energy saving is formulating regulations and policies to encourage workers to save and use electricity efficiently. Accordingly, every day at each production workshop the company is disseminating information about saving energy. There is also a reward and punishment mechanism established to raise awareness and responsibility of each worker.
Especially, the company affixes posters with message "I turned off" before the gateway to remind each worker to turn off the switch at the end of business hours. In addition, the company has reasonable schedule for production and limit the use of additional machinery and specialize positions.
Establishing a "green industry" brand
At Hung Long JSC, energy-saving and environmental protection issues have always been valued. According to the company’s management, this shows their corporate social responsibility of enterprises for a sustainable development. He emphasized that investing in energy efficiency is long term in nature that creates a "green industry" brand for businesses.
Besides management solutions, the company is constantly adopting new technologies that reduce energy costs. The company has installed 500 power-saving devices for sewing machine system, saving 12. 5% on energy costs. Additionally, the company has installed condensate recovery pump in the boiler, saving 25% on fuel costs. In particular, the company has invested in installing elevator system integrated inverter that helps to reduce energy costs by 15% for the elevator system.
The option of renovating the lighting system has helped the company in improving energy efficiency and also increasing productivity. For the old workshops, the company replaced 900 sets of T10 to T5 that saves maximum energy. For the new workshops, the company invested in 2900 sets of T8 fluorescent lamps with electronic ballasts, saving 18% energy costs for lighting.
To raise saving to 30%
Mr. Dinh added that the company does not stop at the success mentioned above, the new workshops soon to be in use are to be invested with the entire energy saving lighting system energy. Additionally the company will develop plan for renovation and further installation of a number of energy saving equipment for the boiler. The overall objective is to minimize energy costs by 30% for the whole company.
"We will continue to maintain and improve our energy saving regulations and policies. The target figure of 30% is modest compared with the energy saving potential of the company. We would like to step by step set feasible and practical goals to ensure proper investment, quick payback period and be consistent with production and business situation of the company in each specific period ", Mr. Toan emphasized.
