Improving the legal system on nuclear safety and security is of national importance, the Ministry of Science and Technology has emphasised.
The country has expanded international cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as well as Japan, Russia, the US and Hungary in atomic energy, nuclear safety and security.
In September 2012, Vietnam’s President approved the supplementary protocol of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and necessary documents to join IAEA’s Convention on Physical Protection of Nuclear Material.
The ministry has coordinated with relevant ministries and sectors as well as its partners from Russia, Japan, France and the US to speed up human resource training in the field in service of the country’s future nuclear power plants, and the construction of the Vietnam-Russia Nuclear Science and Technology Centre.
In the coming time, the ministry will intensify communication campaigns to enhance public awareness of nuclear power used for peaceful purposes, as well as the application of atomic energy for national socio-economic development.
