In the context of economic difficulties, energy conservation has practically benefited businesses and improved worker awareness. The positive effects of energy conservation can be seen in production and business activities at the Delta Sport Equipment Joint Stock Company.
Based in Thanh Hoa Province’s Hoang Hoa District, the Delta Sport Equipment Joint Stock Company is known as a business which has taken effective energy saving and management solutions.
Delta’s workers have been trained to be highly aware of the need to safely and efficiently use electricity
Company Director Nguyen Trong Thau said that the manufacture of sport products did not require much electricity consumption but was a labor-intensive sector. Therefore, if the company did not apply energy and manpower saving methods, it would be unable to make a profit.
Right in the initial period when it was building production facilities, the company installed inverters for electric engines and central air conditioners. The company also applied methods which helped it reduce the amount of electricity required for lighting and cooling.
The wall surrounding production facilities were built to be 30cm thick with an insulating layer of thin spongy to keep the temperature inside at a suitable level for the employees to work during summer. All windows were made of two-layer glass with vacuum between the two layers, allowing the company to make maximum use of natural light and reduce the use of electricity for lighting.
Each lamp in the production facilities was installed with its own switch to allow workers to regulate the light by turning the lamps on or off in necessary cases.
Company Director Nguyen Trong Thau said that all the air conditioners in production facilities were installed based on the steam jet cooling technology to provide cool air for all sections.
Compared with ordinary air conditioners, this steam air conditioning system allows the company to save 70 percent of the monthly electricity consumption. The company has outlined a detailed timetable to ensure effective operation of this air conditioning system. Specifically, from 12.00 midnight to 5.00am, the system will be regulated to keep the temperature inside production facilities at 20 degrees centigrade. During the working time, the air conditioning system will be turned off but the cool air remains in production facilities thanks to the insulating walls.
Along with applying energy saving methods, the company has taken many measures to improve the production line, for example making a shift from the cold drying technology to the dry air technology in producing leather shoes. This solution allows the company to reduce electricity consumption and as a result, the production cost has been reduced by 30 percent.
The company has trained its workers to improve their awareness of the necessity of safely and efficiently using electricity. Saving electricity at home, at work and anywhere else has become a habit of company members.
