Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (VINACOMIN) is using technological and technical solutions, intensifying management in order to minimize coal loss.

According to a report of VINACOMIN at the recent conference "Energy saving - urgent issues", in the 1990s, loss ratio in exploring coal was up to 20% with 10-13% and 40-50% loss in open pit and underground respectively.

Facing this situation, VINACOMIN has made a positive change in innovating technology and improving the level of mining mechanization, including applying synchronous line equipment consisting of drilling equipment, muck handling, transport in the direction of greater capacity and hydraulic products at the open pit.

For underground mines, the level of mechanization in mining, digging and dropping pits, and coal transporting has been constantly improved and invested by more modern equipment. Thus, loss ratio in the open pits and underground mines dropped to 6% and below 30% respectively, meaning that VINACOMIN has recovered by about 15 million tons of coal.

Protection of coal resources

Besides increasing recovery and limiting coal loss, VINACOMIN has also made several drastic solutions to protect and prevent loss during coal mining, processing, transporting and consuming.

According to Mr. Le Minh Chuan -  Chairman and  General director, VINACOMIN continues to direct units drastically to focus on stricter control of the inbound and outbound  stations, and on specialized routes. At the same time, focusing on strengthening the local storage of coal, allocating adequate lighting at the checkpoint; often checking floodlight at key stations, coal storage and transportation to protect the safety of coal for 24/24 hour.
