In 2014, with more drastic measures and policies to support businesses, Hanoi Energy Conservation Center (Hanoi ECC) is considered to have fulfilled the national target program on economical and effective use of energy, especially for industrial production enterprises in the capital.
Talking to our reporters, Dr. Dao Hong Thai - Hanoi ECC Director, said: "In 2014, the center has promoted its propagation and energy audit and encouraged enterprises to give priorities to high efficiency equipment, gradually to replace the low performance devices. In particular, through the budget of the Hanoi People's Committee, Hanoi ECC supported energy audits for 15 industrial production facilities, resulted in 76 solutions to save energy. Thus, the effort saved 951.1 TOE and 2762.7 tons of CO2 emissions through implementing the solutions. Over 30% of the recommended solutions have been specifically deployed by enterprises.”
Accordingly, for the industrial and export processing zones, Hanoi has supported enterprises in Thang Long, Noi Bai, and Quang Minh Zones to promote the use of energy-saving equipment, to focus on supporting industries such as: electricity, electronics and telecommunications, mechanic engineering, materials. In particular, the Centre has supported 05 enterprises with 28 energy saving solutions, to save 326 TOE/year, equivalent to VND 3.55 billion/year, given 10/28 solutions actually implemented.
In the industrial clusters of Gia Lam District, Hanoi ECC provided the guidelines to 20 units on how to report on the use of energy, to make self-assessment and how to identify the sections which have high energy consumption. In addition, 6 units were also supported with 19 measures to improve energy efficiency, a saving of 80.2 TOE/year, equivalent to nearly VND 720 million/year. The support and consultancy were also extended to 8 industrial production facilities in preparation of dossiers for entering the Contest on energy efficiency management in industrial organization, which was organized by the MOIT.
For the beverage industry, Hanoi ECC initially made assessment on the status of management and energy use of 10 enterprises, to build a database and to work out the solutions for energy saving in beverage sector. Therefore, propagation could be performed and the typical model could be scaled up. Accordingly, the Centre has supported 4 enterprises with 29 solutions for energy saving, which helped save 543 TOE/year, equivalent to VND 6.35 billion/year, given 10/29 solutions actually performed by the enterprises. Especially, with the support from Hanoi ECC, Hanoi-Me Linh Beer Company has developed an energy management model, reducing 2% of energy consumption rate.
In a general assessment of the operation of Hanoi ECC in 2014, Dr. Dao Hong Thai also revealed that although it was a difficult year due to lower funding from the national target program as compared to 2013, Hanoi ECC successfully completed the assignments. The year 2015 is the end of the national target program; Hanoi strives to reduce 6-9% of total energy consumption in the entire city. To achieve this goal, Hanoi ECC will continue to focus on its propagation, support in energy audits in key areas, namely industrial zones, export processing zones and cottage industry.
