Besides the operation and management of equipment, the replication of power saving and efficiency model throughout the Southern provinces has contributed to improving the efficiency in ensuring reliable supplies during the dry season.
Highlights in the electricity savings sub-group
Although it is only a small village of Tan My Commune, Duc Hoa district, Long An province, the movement performed by the electricity saving women's union of Bau Cong Hamlet is creating positive effects, spreading over other villages of Tan My. Ms. Phan Thi Le, the chief of sub-group of Women's Union of Bau Cong Village says: the Power Saving Movement in the Union has been deployed and integrated in the meetings, using visual aids. The power-saving criteria are clearly identified and easy to implement in daily life, thus the consensus of the members could be reached.
In particular, the member women union frequently remind each other of changing the habit in daily use of electricity, which previously has been unnoticed as a wasteful use; turning off the fan and lights when leaving a room, turning off all appliances when they are not actually in use, making use of natural light. In production, the irrigation pumping is properly scheduled, to follow the criteria to ensure sufficient watering and power savings, such as controlling the pumping volume, especially in the rush hour, the water hose is kept at optimum length, not too far from the irrigated plot, using the pump type of moderate capacity.
This model has been chosen as a pilot model of power-saving movement. Through three years of implementation, the model has spread to many other villages.
Also in Soc Trang province, the model of power saving women group is also initiated and very efficiently operated by the provincial Women's Union. Typically, as in Ward 2, Soc Trang City, the District Women' s Union established nine power saving women groups with over 200 participants. Through the communication and advocacy, many families no longer use yellow light filament bulbs, instead, they use power-saving bulbs. Therefore, the electricity consumption falls significantly compared to previous time.
Up to now, 45 power saving women groups and one women's Club have been established in Soc Trang city. Ms. Le Thi Huong Lan, vice chairwoman of Women's Union of Soc Trang City, says: "In the time to come, the city will continue to replicate the model of power saving women Club, to organize various activities to save electricity, to perform the theme of power savings, so that officials and the members of the Union could perform the economical and effective use of electricity".
Meanwhile, in Tra Vinh, Tra Vinh Power Authority established its collaboration with senior primary schools, and secondary schools in the province. At the flag-raising ceremony on every Monday, the unit organizes the communication session with students through using the visual aids to illustrate how the electrical appliances are used in the house. Mr. Huynh Van Duc - Deputy Head of Tra Vinh City Economic Office says: The communication messages are understandable, explicable would exert impacts on the consciousness of the student; and concurrently, the students would act as a bridging factor, active and effective communicators in their family, among friends and the community.
