Xylem, a leading global water technology provider, has launched a next-generation, global range of highly-efficient in-line and end-suction pumps, which is claimed to reduce energy costs while improving performance

Xylem, a leading global water technology provider, has launched a next-generation, global range of highly-efficient in-line and end-suction pumps, which is claimed to reduce energy costs while improving performance.

The new Lowara e-series range of pumps, which exceed the strict 2015 European Ecodesign requirements in terms of energy efficiency (minimum efficiency index of more than 0.4), comprises a series of three product lines that update and replace 10 previous models. The streamlined platform provides optimised hydraulic coverage, easier specification, faster lead times and improved energy savings of up to 23 per cent over the company’s prior offering.

Xylem aims to assist engineers by providing the right pumping solutions for their requirements, according to a spokesman for the company. “It is the consulting engineer’s job to provide clients with efficient and sustainable solutions for their buildings, but with so many pumps to choose from, the specification process can prove challenging. Time is money, and engineers need to be seen as experts when it comes to sourcing the right pump solutions for the application and system needs. This is where Xylem can help,” he says.

Peter Agneborn, director, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) and commercial buildings business unit, comments: “We want to make selection easier for our customers. The new series consolidates several legacy models into a single, global offering, enabling specifiers to quickly choose the correct Lowara solution for their application. The e-series continues our commitment to provide our customers with the highest levels of service throughout the product’s life cycle.

He continues: “While we have streamlined our offering, the new series does not limit our ability to serve a number of HVAC and industrial applications. In fact, the extended hydraulic range, multiple configurations, new materials and options actually dramatically increase the number and complexity of applications we can support.”

The new Lowara e-series has IE3 high-efficiency motors in accordance with European Union motor performance standards. For those looking to generate an even greater energy reduction, e-series pumps can be paired with an optional Xylem Hydrovar variable speed drive. The motor-mounted, space-saving Hydrovar is plug-and-play and automatically adjusts operating speeds to optimise pumping system efficiency. As a result, it can provide up to an additional 70 per cent reduction in energy costs, depending on the application.

Installing the Hydrovar is quick and easy, and the system’s electronic communication capabilities ensure the amount of water being used does not exceed the demand. In the past, building owners ran pump systems at a fixed speed, regardless of the pressure required. The Hydrovar enables the system to run based on the building demands, using only the energy needed, ultimately saving money.

The Lowara e-series provides energy cost savings and enhanced reliability, with simplified specification, faster lead times and improved pre- and post-sales support. The new pumps will enable consultants, specifiers and engineers to leverage Xylem’s global presence and production network, while creating customised system solutions for their customers supported by localised applications expertise.

Xylem enables customers to transport, treat, test and efficiently use water in public utility, residential and commercial building services, industrial and agricultural settings. The company does business in more than 150 countries through a number of market-leading product brands, and bring broad applications expertise with a strong focus on finding local solutions to the world’s most challenging water and wastewater problems. Xylem is headquartered in New York and had 2013 revenues of $3.8 billion and more than 12,500 employees worldwide.
