On December 8, 2015 the Da Nang People's Committee had a meeting with Mr. Ranjan K.Bose, senior energy expert of the World Bank (WB) in the framework of the field mission program between the Da Nang city People's Committee with the Mission Team of the World Bank.
Mr. Ranjan K.Bose said that the WB wanted to learn about interests of Da Nang in seeking funding sources to implement the project, following the pre-feasibility study which had been implemented in Da Nang within the framework of SUEEP program.
According to Mr. Ranjan K.Bose, Da Nang city is a dynamic locomotive for the region with well-developed vision and green growth goals. Thus, through the connection with the WB, there are many donors who are interested in financing the project of urban infrastructure development, oriented by green growth and environmental friendliness, including the Green Growth Trust Fund of Korea (KGGTF), International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank, the Public-Private Infrastructure Advisory Facility (PPIAF) of WB and the Global Infrastructure Index Facility (GIIF), with diversified forms of cooperation, including the cooperation of State-State and State-Private.
According to Mr. Ranjan K. Bose, the World Bank wants to support one or two cities in Vietnam for pilot projects of solar power plants with total capacity of estimated 100MWh across the country within the framework of Sustainable Urban Energy and Emissions Planning Program of East Asia (SUEEP), with possible forms of technical assistance or loans. Therefore, he also wants to find out the interest of Da Nang for this project of energy saving.
The Vice Chairman of Da Nang city PPC, Mr. Phung Tan Viet thanked the World Bank for being interested in finding the financial resources to introduce to Da Nang. Concerning the project of solar plant mentoined by the WB, vice chairman Phung Tan Viet confirmed that Da Nang city would love to join the pilot project, because it is very relevant to the development oriented towards an energy saving city, switching to using more renewable energy to cater for the green growth of the city.
Therefore, the Vice chairman has assigned the Department of Industry and Trade to be the focal point for coordination with the Department of Planning and Investment, Department of Foreign Affairs and other relevant units to aggregate documents and to prepare the concrete proposals in writing on other projects that Da Nang wants WB to support, as well as participation in the WB pilot project of solar plant.
