Promoting energy saving in industrial production
Thứ tư, 06/10/2021 - 07:26
The level of energy waste in industrial production facilities in Vietnam remains high. According to preliminary calculations, the industrial sector accounts for 47% of annual energy consumption and the potential for energy saving is estimated at about 20% - 30%.
Energy saving brings many practical benefits to enterprises such as reducing production and operating costs, improving competitiveness, technology application capacity, as well as brand reputation in the context that efficient use of resources is becoming a criterion in global commercial competitiveness.
In recent years, many solutions to save energy, in which priority is given to investment solutions to innovate technology to improve energy use mode and reduce energy consumption per unit of product is the focus of enterprises. Energy saving solutions applied at energy-using facilities have had great efficiency, contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting the environment.

According to Hoa Phat Group, in the first 6 months of 2021, the total electricity generation of thermal power plants of Hoa Phat Iron and Steel Complex in Hai Duong and Dung Quat has reached over 1 billion kWh. With this figure, Hoa Phat is self-sufficient in most of its electricity production and saves about VND 1,700 billion, contributing to improving the competitiveness of its products.
Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel Production Complex currently has 4 generating sets with a total capacity of 240 MW. The total amount of electricity generated to the 110 kV station in the first half of the year of the company reached 815 million kWh, equal to the electricity output of the whole 2020. This means that Hoa Phat Dung Quat is self-sufficient in 70% of its electricity production. Converting to the current electricity price, the Complex has saved VND 1,300 billion in 6 months.
Along with the above solution, Hoa Phat Hai Duong Iron and Steel Production Complex achieved electricity output of 242 million kWh, an increase of 40% over the same period in 2020. Generally in 6 months, Hoa Phat Hai Duong Iron and Steel Production Complex has been saving 400 billion dong thanks to the autonomy of most of the energy for production.
Another enterprise that also takes the lead and promotes the reduction of electricity consumption in production is Son Ha International Joint Stock Company. In 2019, Son Ha achieved the certification of Using 5-star Green Energy for key energy-using facilities in industrial production of Hanoi Capital.

Industry is currently the largest consumer of energy as well as electricity. This will continue for many years to come as Vietnam is in the process of industrialization. It can be said that the increase in energy use in industrial production is a concern of Vietnamese policymakers. There have been many programs and projects on industrial energy efficiency implemented by the Ministry of Industry and Trade for a long time, with the strong support of many international organizations such as: United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ), Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), World Bank (WB), Government of Denmark…
In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has strengthened the implementation of the Law on Efficient Use of Energy in all areas of life, economy and society through synchronous and thorough implementation of management and technical solutions. At the same time, there is also a mechanism to encourage businesses to use energy more efficiently.
On the business side, energy saving is one of the measures for enterprises to keep production costs low and survive in the global competitive environment by applying effective management measures and implementing solutions to save energy in the entire production and business chain. Energy-saving solutions applied at energy-using facilities in recent years have been very effective, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment, showing the social responsibility of the company, enterprises, contributing to ensuring national energy security.
Recently, within the framework of the National Energy Efficiency Programme for the period of 2019 - 2030 (VNEEP 3), the Ministry of Industry and Trade cooperated with the Vietnam Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency Association to use energy efficiently. Vietnam has launched the Energy Efficiency Award in Industry in 2021.
Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu - Deputy Director General, Department of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development, Ministry of Industry and Trade - Representative of the Organizing Committee of the Award said, "The award aims to recognize and honor models and solutions for energy saving, typical in the field of industrial production, thereby creating social effects, making positive contributions to the goals of socio-economic development, environmental protection and sustainable development in the industrialization period of the country”.
According to the representative of the Organizing Committee, the deadline to receive entries for the award is at the end of October 31, 2021. The Ministry of Industry and Trade will organize the announcement and award ceremony at the end of 2021.
