Speaking at the launch ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade - Mr. Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan stated: In 2023, we witnessed localized reductions in electricity supply that posed difficulties for the economy and the lives of the people. The year 2024 is expected to face severe impacts from climate change, which directly affects the task of electricity supply. According to the report by Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and the Electricity Regulatory Authority on the provision and operation of the electrical system for 2024, it is sufficient to meet the electricity needs for socio-economic development and public demand. However, ensuring power supply is anticipated to face significant challenges, especially in the Northern region during the peak hot months (May, June, and July).
Using electricity efficiency and conservation is necessary and important. This has been a consistent policy of the Government over the years. On June 8, 2023, the Prime Minister issued Directive No. 20 on electricity-saving measures for the period 2023-2025. Particularly, on February 14, 2024, the Prime Minister issued Directive No. 05 on ensuring the supply of electricity, coal, and petroleum to secure electricity for 2024. Accordingly, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of electricity-saving activities and the use of energy efficiency and conservation.
Mr. Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, spoke at the launch ceremony.
Based on the close directives of the Prime Minister and the Government, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is determined to intensify energy-saving efforts. Considering the use of energy efficiency and conservation as an urgent and important issue, contributing to ensuring sufficient power for economic development and social life in both the short and long term.
Following up on the success of 2023, the Ministry of Industry and Trade hopes that the 2024 Journalism Award for promoting the use of energy efficiency and conservation will continue to attract the interest and participation of journalists, reporters, communication staff from various units, and correspondents nationwide. Additionally, the organizing committee hopes that through their writing, journalists and collaborators will help disseminate the policies and directives of the Party and the State regarding the efficient use of energy, uncover exemplary models and innovative energy-saving initiatives, and reflect on the challenges faced in implementing these practices.
"From these articles and information, it will help the relevant authorities, especially the Ministry of Industry and Trade, to advise the Government and the competent authorities to issue and adjust policies to further promote the use of energy efficiency and conservation," Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan emphasized.
Mr. Phan Toan Thang – Chief of the Office of the Vietnam Journalists Association announced the regulations of the Award.
Mr. Phan Toan Thang stated: The journalistic works participating in the competition need to accurately, timely, and effectively reflect the following contents: Promoting and implementing the directives and policies of the Party, the policies and laws of the Government on using energy efficiency and conservation; commend various ministries, organizations, units, and facilities that use energy efficiency and conservation through the implementation of synchronized tasks, authorities management solutions, technical support, scientific research and technology development, product development, market transition, training and human resource development, leveraging international community experience and support. These efforts aim to reduce energy consumption and minimize electricity loss, contributing to achieving the government's goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 as committed at COP26.
The entries also focus on promoting community awareness about using energy efficiency and conservation; reducing energy intensity in various economic sectors and fields; encouraging energy saving as a regular activity for key energy-using facilities and key energy-consuming sectors of the economy, aiming towards green growth and sustainable development.
