The Thua Thien Hue Power Company said that on implementing Prime Ministerial Instruction No.20/CT-TTg dated June 8, 2023 on enhancing electricity efficiency, the company has developed operational plans for the electricity system. This is based on the list of priority customers for power supply in 2024, which has been approved by the Thua Thien Hue Provincial People’s Committee.
Many textile and garment enterprises in Thua Thien Hue have changed their lighting equipment to LED bulbs and shifted production from peak to off-peak hours.
Speaking to the Vietnam Economic News, a representative of the Thua Thien Hue Power Company leadership said that in the context of extreme weather conditions resulting from El-Nino effects causing prolonged severe heat, ensuring safe and stable power supply for socioeconomic development and daily life of local residents, as well as production and trading activities of enterprises, is a key priority for the company. This includes proactively and widely applying electricity efficiency solutions, as well as closely monitoring production and business plans of factories during the dry season of 2024.
Working with businesses, the Thua Thien Hue Power Company has proactively provided information about the solutions, efforts, and plans of the power sector to ensure safe and stable electricity supply for commercial and industrial customers. To realize this objective, the power sector requires collaboration, joint efforts, and coordination from customers, as well as large industrial manufacturing plants located in the locality. Accordingly, customers need to adjust their usage, change their shifts, and proactively modify their business and production plans.
The power company additionally noted that through working sessions, major electricity consumers and businesses in the province have committed to not exceeding their maximum capacity during peak hours of the system, demonstrating high consensus on the energy efficiency initiative and shoulder the difficulty with the community.
Tran Manh Hung, Director of Mikado Technology and Trading Joint Stock Company (Phu Bai Industrial Zone, Thua Thien Hue), commented that the company’s monthly electricity bill ranges from VND3-3.5 billion. Regarding the implementation of the energy efficiency program, the company has partnered with the power sector in reducing its electricity consumption, as well as shifting production schedules from peak to off-peak hours. Additionally, the company has optimized its older equipment and machinery to operate more efficiently, implementing the most effective measures to save electricity and reduce electricity costs for the business.
Le Viet Thao, Head of Production Operations at Phu An Textile Company (Phu Bai), noted that despite increasingly extreme weather conditions, the company has worked with the power sector to implement various energy efficiency measures, including limiting production during peak hours and upgrading technology, machinery, and lighting equipment. Thao explained that on average, the company’s monthly electricity bill is around VND4 billion. However, after implementing the electricity saving solutions, the company has been able to reduce the sum by VND60-100 million.
Dong Lam Cement Joint Stock Company in Phong Dien District is a major cement manufacturing enterprise in Thua Thien Hue Province. Its production line consists of high-capacity machinery that consumes a large amount of electricity, with the company’s average monthly electricity consumption being around 10 million kWh.
Nguyen Van Nhat Hoang, the factory’s manager, stated that in recent years, in response to the government’s energy efficiency program, the company has gradually optimized and changed the factory’s equipment to ensure the plant operates in an energy-efficient manner, with a focus on investing in electricity-saving machinery.
Previously, the Thua Thien Hue Provincial People’s Committee issued a plan to meet the goal of saving at least two percent of the total annual electricity consumption in the province during the 2023-2025 period and the following years. It aims to reduce the electricity loss rate in the provincial power system to below six percent by 2025.
The plan also aims to reduce the peak power load of the provincial power system by at least three percent by 2025 through the implementation of Demand-Side Management (DSM) programs and Demand Response (DR) adjustments. It is striving to have 50 percent of public buildings and 50 percent of private households use rooftop solar power for self-consumption, not for sale to the national grid, by 2030. Additionally, the plan targets 100 percent of street lighting system to use LED bulbs by the end of 2025.
To effectively implement the electricity efficiency program, Thua Thien Hue Province has directed relevant departments and agencies to roll out three main measures, namely solutions to improve electricity-saving and efficient usage behaviors, technological and technical solutions to support electricity savings, and the application of electricity management models that promote energy-saving and efficient use.
