Terumo Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Terumo Vietnam) is a company specializing in the production, manufacturing, and assembly of medical machinery and equipment, as well as related medical tools and semi-finished products. Since its establishment, the company has continuously invested in technology, upgraded its machinery systems, and implemented technical management to save energy.

The company has strictly complied with the Law on Using Energy Efficiency and Conservation. As a major key energy facility in Hanoi, Terumo has taken significant steps to reduce its energy consumption.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tuan, Head of Maintenance and Energy Manager at Terumo Vietnam stated: Terumo Vietnam has prioritized energy-saving solutions by proactively researching and applying technical management measures in the company's operations. Simultaneously, outdated equipment has been replaced with modern technology that consumes less energy.

"From 2020 to 2022, Terumo Vietnam implemented 61 energy-saving solutions, saving nearly 3.4 million kWh, equivalent to over 5.7 billion VND, and reducing CO₂ emissions by 891.8 tons per year," Mr. Tuan added.

Some notable energy-saving solutions implemented by Terumo include replacing 47W fluorescent bulbs with 20W LED bulbs in areas like the raw material rooms of Plant 1, the document storage rooms, and large meeting rooms, saving over 11,000 kWh.

Another example is OHU the automatic shutdown for the 2nd floor office of the building on the BMS system (optimized management system for equipment systems to minimize energy consumption and increase equipment life) after working hours and on holidays, the solution helps save more than 26.5 thousand kWh.

To further improve energy efficiency, the company installed a solar power system, using 5,108 rooftop solar panels on four factory roofs, saving 4,187,000 kWh annually. Additionally, an energy monitoring system with 306 measurement points was used to review and analyze energy consumption, helping identify wastage early. This system has saved the company up to 412,345 kWh of electricity per year.

When it was noticed that some equipment, such as the 11kW circulating fans in Plant 1, was not operating at full capacity, the company installed inverters for the fan motors and timers to automatically shut down exhaust fans during non-working days. This solution saved 27,691.3 kWh annually, equivalent to more than 41 million dong.

Notably, transitioning the HVAC system from day mode to night mode when not in production helped the company save 1,445,148 kWh.

Alongside technological and technical solutions, Terumo Vietnam established an Energy Management Committee to develop and issue an energy-saving policy. The Energy Management Committee also regularly organizes training sessions to raise staff awareness according to the planned schedule. The company continuously improves its energy management system following ISO 50001:2018 standards.

Currently, while expanding its production and market, Terumo Vietnam continues to upgrade and replace old machinery to reduce electricity consumption. The company also intensifies its communication efforts to raise awareness among staff, encouraging them to actively save energy during production and business activities.
