The contest of “Energy Efficiency Buildings in 2010” which started in May 2010 has featured 50 buildings all over the country (including Hai Phong, Hanoi, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Kien Giang, Can Tho and Ben Tre…). Thirty five buildings have been short-listed to take part in the final round.

The “Energy Efficiency Buildings Contest” has organized four times by the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Energy Conservation (ECC) under the leadership of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Construction. The contest is aimed at honoring buildings which use energy effectively and choosing a model building.

According to the organization board, the number of candidates this year is more than the previous years. It is estimated that the final round will be organized in late October. The prizes will be given based on types of buildings.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the contests have attracted more than 100 buildings, 77 among which meet demands of organization board. Thirty three buildings of those have given domestic prizes and five won the prizes at ASEAN level. In the past, most of buildings were in the south. This year, many of buildings including schools and hospitals are located in the north.

The organization has finished researching the reality of energy conservation of 35 buildings which have passed the preparatory round. The final round will be held in Hanoi, featuring experts from the Department of Energy Conservation under the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Construction.

In June 2010, four Vietnamese buildings won the prizes of “Energy Efficiency Buildings Contests of South East Asia 2010”. The contest included 18 dossiers of buildings from different countries in the region such as Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

The first prize of tropical buildings belonged to Anna Mandara Resort Da Lat. The building of the Tien Dat Travel Company won the second price in the same type of buildings. In the criteria of improved buildings, Landmark Vietnam Tower was given the third prize. The Ocean Park Building in Vietnam won the prize of “Efficient Energy Management of South East Asia in 2010”.
