On November 18th, at a meeting with the delegation of Russian State Duma Committee for Energy in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Le Minh Tri, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, confirmed that the city is very interested in the development of science and technology because this is an important goal for sustainable development.

According to Vice Chairman Le Minh Tri, as the largest economic center of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City really needs the basis of high technology as well as sources of energy, especially electricity, to meet the requirements of economic development.

"Ho Chi Minh City currently has partnerships with many localities of the Russian Federation; many cooperative programs and projects between the two sides have been deployed in both Vietnam and Russia. The city always needs the support and cooperation from Russia and Russian localities, especially in the areas in which Russia is one of the leading countries such as science, technology, energy, oil and gas ..." -  Mr. Le Minh Tri stressed and expressed the hope that cooperation between the two sides would become increasingly practical and efficient.

Mr Simanovskiy Leonid Yakovlevich, Vice Chairman of Russian State Duma Committee for Energy, said that the group's visit to Vietnam this time is to exchange and promote the cooperation between Russia and Vietnam in the fields of energy and oil and gas.

At the meeting with authorities of Vietnam, the two sides also discussed abut the construction project of a nuclear power plant in Vietnam.

Mr Simanovskiy also added that Russia is ready to exchange, share and support Vietnam in information and documents on building nuclear power plants, the area in which Russia has extensive experience.

Sharing with the delegate of Russian State Duma, Mr. Le Minh Tri stressed that Vietnam is interested in the construction project of a nuclear power plant due to the necessity and urgency of the problem of electrical energy sources for socio-economic development, Ho Chi Minh City is especially interested in this project because this city will be one of the beneficiaries when the project is completed.
