Hanoi Energy Conservation Center has conducted practical research and offered its energy saving solutions to passenger transporters.

With the goal to reduce the energy consumption for the transport sector by 1-3% in 2014, Hanoi Energy Conservation Center (ECC Hanoi) has conducted several research and offer solutions that save power for public passenger transporters, namely Route 53 bus and Route 62 bus - these bus routes have huge passenger traffic load and use plenty of fuel.

Mr. Dao Hong Thai - ECC Hanoi Director, said the goal of the ECC Hanoi is to make a contribution into the awareness of the business leaders of public passenger transporters on energy saving and efficiency; to raise the awareness for energy managers, technicians, operators so that they could work out the energy consumption rates under the Law on Energy Saving and Efficiency. Using it as a calculation foundation, it is aimed to reduce the energy consumption by 1-3%, so that after about 5 years, the energy consumption rates applicable in public transport enterprises could be closer to that in other countries in the region.

After research into the travel routes, the passenger volume, composition and energy consumption capacity of the two bus routes 52 and 63, ECC Hanoi developed a pilot technical and economic norm for energy consumption in operation of these two bus routes.

In particular, the Centre has advised with 14 energy saving solutions, including effective solutions such as: Application of ISO system into the business and the establishment of energy management Board; Nano coatings for tires and heat insulator film for laminated glass, to reduce the temperature of the direct sun light, saving fuel for the air conditioning system; research into converting the diesel fueled bus into to LPG fueled bus; structural improvements in the internal combustion engine, in order to control the consumed fuel amount.

Also, the Centre also supports the units to review the bus schedule, to reorganize the bus routes in a rational and scientific way to better serve the travel demand, to save the general operating costs; to check the usage time of the vehicle in transportation and to work out plans for removal of vehicles which do not guarantee the minimum energy performance according to the current benchmarks and regulations; to plan for proper regular maintenance periodically performed for vehicles, transport equipment during the operation and use.

As stated by ECC Hanoi, if these effective solutions are properly applied, it will help the bus route companies save about VND 1.5 to 1.7 billion / year in energy costs; the payback period for investment is about 1-6 years, depending on the specific solution and bus route.

By the end of 2013, Hanoi had 1,242 buses, 4 passenger transport companies, serving more than 10 thousand tours and over 1.1 million commuters and passengers per day. If the energy saving measures are applied effectively, every year, the businesses of public passenger transport could save dozens of billion in energy costs while at the same time contributing to environmental protection.

In 2014, in addition to doing research, support, offering solutions to promote energy saving in Transport, ECC Hanoi also got deeply involved  in the energy audit activities, and the support to buildings, businesses in their effective application of energy saving solutions.

Specifically, the ECC Hanoi advised with 72 energy saving solutions for 17 businesses in the industrial zones and clusters; support with 59 solutions for 11 energy efficient buildings; Review wit assessment for 15 units implement energy management in industry and buildings, comprising 150 energy-saving projects. Apart form that, the Center also successfully organized “ENTECH HANOI” Fair, when the value of technology transfer was up to $ 9.5 million to help businesses invest in new technologies and equipment with energy efficiency.
