Hau Giang province is considered to have a stable source of raw materials, potential for biomass energy development due to the many businesses of rice milling, 3 sugar factories (in operation for 7 months/year). Taking the rice husk discharge after threshing into account, there are approximately 229,000 tons/year, the bagasse residues up to 350 tons/day.

On April 21, 2015, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) - German Federal Enterprise for International Cooperation and Hau Giang Provincial Department of Industry and Trade organized a midterm consultation workshop, to acquire more comments on prices, collection cost and transportation cost of by-products of agriculture to clarify the feasibility of the Vietnam-Germany Renewable Energy Support Project (RESP).
Hau Giang is the first province in our country to have such pilot project, starting October, 2014.
Representative of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) expects that RESP would be effective and contribute to addressing the demands of energy in the locality and also a positive input for environment protection.
