Cement production is a fuel consuming industrial sector, particularly in clinker burning process. From inception to date, the traditional fuel source is mainly coal. Currently, in industrialized countries, it is quite popular to use domestic and industrial solid wastes to generate new energy sources, as an additional and alternative source for traditional fossil fuels.
For cement production industry, making use of fuels produced from waste burning will contribute a considerable part to the replacement of traditional fossil fuels in cement production, solving the pressing problems now in fuel shortage. As it also saves input costs, the solution emerges as stronger competitiveness in the market.
Official Letter No. 623/TTg-KTN issued by the Prime Minister dated May 5, 2015 endorsed the pilot implementation of a project on application of "Technology to using domestic solid waste as alternative fuel in cement plants in Vietnam".
As stipulated in the above document, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Construction to select a suitable site, to get the consensus from the relevant local authorities and institutions and to implement the project as required for effectiveness.
For the pilot project at Vicem But Son Company in Phu Ly, Ha Nam, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Construction to reach agreement with relevant local authorities and to direct the investor in doing research, so that the project could be completed as specified. The Ministry of Construction is to collate documents for reporting to the Prime Minister on any problems arising during the construction, so as to prepare the mechanisms applicable to other similar projects.
