Hanoi is in the most intense heat wave since the beginning of the season. The highest temperature during the day can be up to 40 degrees Celsius. It is forecast that hot weather condition will spread to the North-Central Region and tend to rise till the weekend.

Abnormally scorching hot weather with higher temperatures entails sharply increasing demand for electricity consumption. In May 20, 2015, the power consumption exceeded 101% of the largest electricity consumption in 2014, which was 52,228 MWh on the day of May 23, 2014.
To ensure continuous power supply, Hanoi Power Corporation recommends that individuals, businesses and organizations enhance power saving.
People can apply measures such as turning off electrical appliances when not in use, limit the use of electricity during peak hours. Households with demands of new electrical appliances like refrigerators, air conditioners, electric fans should choose products of low energy consumption and power saving products labelled with energy stamp issued by Ministry of Industry and Trade.
For offices, employees should be reminded to turn off electrical appliances such as lights, fans, computers when they are not in use, and people go out of the room. Air conditioners should be set at around 25 degrees and turned off 30 minutes before working hour ends.
As reported by Hanoi Power Corporation, in order to ensure sufficient electricity supply for people living in these scorching days, the Corporation will cancel the outage schedule in the high, medium and low voltage grid during May 26 -29, 2015.
