A survey on the current use of energy in 10 office buildings in Hanoi shows that 95-98% of the energy used is electricity, and the rest is gas and oil. However, in the assessment, the use of energy in many buildings has not achieved the desired effect. The cause will be identified if periodic assessment of energy consumption is regularly performed. Besides, energy managers have to hold several simultaneous jobs whereas the awareness of dwellers in the building is still low.
According to Hanoi Energy Conservation Center (Hanoi ECC), a unit as Savico Megamall Trade Center, thanks to the overall application of economical solutions, can save approximately 524,000 kWh in 2014, equivalent up to VND1.36 billion.
Also according to ECC Hanoi, as it has been calculated upon the audited figures from the 10 buildings, if applicable management solutions and techniques to save energy are strengthened, nearly 1.3 billion kWh of electricity per year could be saved, an equivalent to about 15% of total electricity consumption.
Recently, Hanoi ECC has attempted to organize customer conferences to introduce energy management model, ISO 50001 and to disseminate the use of high-performance devices, and common successful economical practice in the buildings. The dissemination has been quite flexible, from taking advantages of the Exhibitions of energy saving to inviting the representatives of the building management to attend those events.
The leaders of ECC Hanoi say that the mandatory provisions to ensure economical and efficient use of energy are meant for key energy users. Accordingly, the critical energy users have the following responsibilities: they must have one mandatory audit on energy use every 3 years; they must apply the energy management model under the guidance of authorized state agencies; they must have an annual and 5 year plan on the economical and efficient use of energy to match with their mode and size of production and business.
Energy management model consists of 5 criteria: announcement of targets and policies on economical and efficient use of energy at the facility; appointment of energy manager; a network of energy management; regularly monitoring the energy consumption; periodic training for workers in the economical and efficient use of energy; provisions of bonus, penalty for good and bad practices of economical and efficient use of energy at the facility.
