Perceiving the instructions from the Provincial People's Committee and to implement the solutions to save electricity, the power usage in the province has achieved certain results. During the first 7 months of 2015, the province has saved 30.8 million kWh, reaching 68.4% against the annual plan.
The public lighting system managing units cut off the number of street lights to fit each route, area, while ensuring a safely sufficient lighting. The street lighting is reasonably adjusted; depending on the routes and the season. For example street lighting could be turned on later in the evening, and off at dawn, fitting in with the features, the needs, the activities, and the local conditions. A plan is also prepared to replace, adjust and renovate the system for reasonable lighting, to avoid wasting electricity; to replace the unnecessarily high capacity lights with smaller capacity lamps, to save energy in the secondary branch roads, alleys, where low traffic is identified.
In domestic use, the households are encouraged to limit the use of power consuming devices (air conditioner, water heater, water pump, electric iron) during peak times from 10.30 to 12.00 and from 17.00 to 21.00; to use other electrical equipment in a relevant and economical manner, to turn off electrical appliances and lights when there is no demand.
Restaurants, hotels, business establishments, services, commercial and trade facilities are advised to cut off at least 50% of capacity for decorative lighting in outdoor advertising during peak hours in the evening (from 17.00 to 21.00). Meanwhile they are encouraged to use power-saving devices (such as fluorescent lamps high performance, T8, T5 and compact lamps, electronic ballasts, solar lights, solar combined with wind power lights, LED technology based lights), and other energy-saving labeled appliances.
For businesses, production facilities: plans are required to cut the load themselves when electricity outage occurs, and to introduce the solutions to economical and efficient use of electricity; electricity use with appropriate purposes, to show the capacity and capacity charts as signed in the power purchase agreement.
For power generating units: it is necessary to strengthen the advocacy and communication for power savings, while paying special attention to introductions, promotions and guidance to new technology, products, equipment and power saving equipment with energy saving labels.
For the Earth Hour 2015 event in the end of March, Binh Thuan saved 16,089 kWh, equivalent to VND25.5 million, an increase of 3.58% in energy savings over Earth Hour 2014. The new features for this year come from extensive communication targeted at people from all walks of life. The Ceremony to launch the campaign with the theme "Saving energy - Responding to climate change" was held in Phan Thiet city. More than 200 pupils, students, youth union members of Phan Thiet University, colleges, vocational schools, High Schools joined the exciting activities such as cycling parade and cultural performance. The performance with a large number of participating young people attracted the attention of the whole community.
