An Giang Provincial People's Committee has approved the project on management and efficient use of rice biomass for energy generation with a total budget VND4.310 billion in the context of climate change in An Giang province by 2030.

This is the first province in Vietnam to set up a program for using waste byproducts from rice, under the cooperation of International Center of Local Democracy (Sweden). To date, some foreign partners, rice production enterprises are interested in the optional schemes for them to generate electricity from rice husks and straw, to supply power for their own facilities aiming at savings.
An Giang province has cooperated with the Swedish Energy Agency, and ETC to discover the silica constituent in the husk, then they called on organizations and foreign companies to make investment into environmentally friendly products; such as the silica in the husk can be used to produce high-value products such as insulation material for coated wires, solar batteries, ultra-light fabric, anti-impact glass, and filtering materials.
