Honoring 16 Power Users for their Creativity, Economical and Efficient Use of Energy

On December 19, 2015 in Hanoi, the Ministry of Industry and Trade held a ceremony to award the winners in the Contest "Energy management in industry and buildings in 2014" honoring 16 units for their creative energy solutions and Economical and Efficient Use of Energy.

In 2014, the contest "Energy management in industry and buildings" attracted nearly 100 industrial enterprises and buildings all over the country with their registered participation. Under competition regulations, the Organizing Committee has conducted the pre-qualification and resulted in the selection of 40 units for judgment with two Award Systems: Energy Efficiency Management, and Creative and Unique Management of Energy Efficiency.

There are 396 energy-saving projects implemented by units to save 20,370 TOE, equivalent to nearly VND478 billion, and 51,300 tons of CO2 emission reduction in the project life cycle.

For the type of Industries: First prize for Energy Efficiency Management belongs to Dong Xuan Knitting Company Limited, in Hanoi, and the First prize for Creative and Unique Management of Energy Efficiency belongs to Hanoi -Beer Brewery in Me Linh. For the type of Buildings, the highest prize for Energy Efficiency Management belongs to Asian Intercontinental Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City and the most creative and Unique Management of Energy Efficiency prize belongs to ACB Tower Building, Ho Chi Minh City.

Typically in the deployment of energy saving projects in 2014, it was Hanoi -Beer Brewery in Me Linh with the project to replace the oil fired boiler with biomass gas boiler, resulted in a saving of VND29.3 billion / year.

With a typical project in the water heating system, using solar energy in combination with heat pump, it helps Intercontinental Asiana Saigon Hotel win the first prize in Energy Efficiency Management for Buildings, which has reduced energy consumption rate from 26.97 kWh/m2/year to 25.39 kWh/m2/year.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Do Duc Quan, Deputy Director of General Department of Energy - Ministry of Industry and Trade, said: "Economical and Efficient Use of Energy has been a common development trend of the advanced countries. In Vietnam, the Economical and Efficient Use of Energy is considered as a repeatedly regular task; one of the top priorities. Since 2010, the Ministry of Industry and Trade directed the General Department of Energy in collaboration with the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade to organize the contest "Energy management in industries and buildings" with objectives to: Promote and encourage the enterprises to make investment into high-tech, advanced technology, energy saving; to increase the business efficiency and toward a environmental friendly "green" economy. Addressing the domestic and overseas customers and partners, it is also to advertise the brand, to enhance the image and competitiveness for businesses participating in the contest.

In 2010, the Ministry of Industry and Trade provided guidance to the General Department of Energy in collaboration with the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade to organize the contest "Energy management in industries and buildings" with objectives to: Promote and encourage the enterprises to make investment into high-tech, advanced technology, energy saving; to increase the business efficiency and toward a environmental friendly "green" economy. Addressing the domestic and overseas customers and partners, it is also to advertise the brand, to enhance the image and competitiveness for businesses participating in the contest.

After 4 years, from 2010 to 2013, the contest has received the response of the energy users; with nearly 400 enterprises across the country to participate, 134 recorded profiles entered the final round and 97 units won prizes. The businesses implemented 1,316 energy efficiency projects, saving 73,050 TOE, equivalent to VND1,557 billion, 243 600 tones of CO2 emissions in the project life cycle (3 years).

With the investment into high performance equipment and technology, the competition has selected, and honored the enterprises with solutions of typical energy efficiency and replication of typical management solutions to energy efficiency. It helps businesses contribute to society with high quality products, environmentally friendly products, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in response to climate change.
