Bach Long Vi Island is the most offshore island in the Gulf of Tonkin, Vietnam. It has an important role in endorsement of sovereignty and maritime delimitation in the Gulf of Tonkin. The power supply on the island mainly relies on a diesel power station with 3 generators running alternately to ensure power supply for the activities on the island. In the forecast for the period 2014 - 2020, electricity demand on the island will be in its largest growth. Therefore, Electricity of Vietnam and the Northern Power Corporation assigned the plan to Hai Phong Power Company to take over all power grid on Bach Long Vi island district and to run the power supply business on the island, starting January 1, 2016, Hai Phong Power Company has invested in upgrading the power grid to ensure power supply to the islanders during the Lunar New Year and the years to come.

Specifically, Hai Phong Power Company released an instant investment of nearly VND 30 billion to upgrade and enhance a 630 kVA generator, and replace the electricity metering system and renovate the diesel power stations, and the medium voltage lines.
In 2016 and 2017, Hai Phong Power Company will replace the power metering system with the mixed power source metering system on Bach Long Vi Island: Hybrid Power Source Wind power, Solar, Diesel, and Energy storage. Accordingly, the company will invest VND148 billion into installations of 4 new wind power turbines, solar panels, 2 diesel generators, an energy storage system using battery combined with inverter to connect to the grid and the monitoring and control system.
