The Seminar on “Energy transition for the ASEAN future”, one of the events in sustainable energy week 2016, was held at New World Hotel (Ho Chi Minh City) on 2nd March 2016. The event was organized by UBM Asia, Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (JGSEE) and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, under the auspices of Vienam Clean Energy Association (VCEA), Ho Chi Minh Energy Conservation Center (HCM ECC), and Vietnam Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency Association (VECEA).
At the seminar, Mr. Huynh Kim Tuoc - director of HCM ECC said total energy output from renewable sources would increase to over 100 billion KWh by 2020, reach 180 billion KWh by 2030 and exceed 450 billion KWh by 2050. In the time coming, Vietnam Government will strongly encourage the development of new and renewable energy.
At the event, speakers from various universities of South East Asia also discussed legal frameworks and incentive policies to support renewable energy in Vietnam.
In Vietnam’s energy development strategy by 2020 and in vision of 2050, the government aims at increasing share of renewable energy in total commercial primary energy supply to 5% by 2020 and 11% by 2050 from 3% of 2010.
