A pilot project in which 300 solar street lights will be installed in some highways and motorways was proposed by Directorate for Roads of Vietnam. The project is currently being evaluated by Ministry of Transport.

As proposed, 300 solar LED lights, 240 energy saving LED lights connected to the grid and 2,718 road safety equipment including solar LED warning lights will be installed.
If approved, the project will be implemented across some highways and motorways in Northern, Central and Southern part of Vietnam from 2016 to 2018 with the total distance of 9 km. As estimated, total investment from the national budget for the pilot project is over VND47.7 billion.
According to Directorate for Roads of Vietnam, solar lighting system will reduce labor cost, as well as electricity bills. The proposal is currently being evaluated by Ministry of Transport.
