Recently, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has promulgated a plan for economical and efficient use of energy in the city for 2016 - 2020 period. Accordingly, by 2020, the city will strive to achieve a saving rate from 2% to 2.5% of energy consumption compared to the annual average demand forecast.

To achieve the objectives, the city will promote the popular use of high-performance equipment, advanced technology, energy-efficiency technologies; and gradualreplacement of low performance equipment, and later removal of alloutdated technology equipment. It is, therefore, the application of management procedures, advanced operation to ensure energy savings and efficiency in the manufacturing facilities which consume a lot of energy.

Ho Chi Minh City authority strives to save 2% - 2.5% of energy consumption compared to the annual average demand forecast.

It is also planned to reduce energy consumption by at least 10% for some sector groups of energy-intensive industries.

Besides, the development of the transport system is also a concern to meet the needs of transportation with improved quality, fuel efficiency, and limited environmental pollutants.

In addition, the city also strives,by 2020, to reach a figure of 10% of energy consumption enterprises which apply effective energy management system ISO 50001; and 100% of the construction or renovation in compliance with the provisions of national technical standards for economical and efficient use of energy. 

Ho Chi Minh City will also apply the solutions, high-performance lighting equipment for 100% of public lighting works, whether it is new construction or renovation.
