Following the previous training session in Hanoi, on the morning of March 18, 2025, the training course "Capacity building on ESCO business for energy service company" under "Vietnam Scaling Up Energy Efficiency Project" (VSUEE) was organized in Ho Chi Minh City. This course aimed to strengthen the capacity of Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) to develop, implement, and manage energy efficiency and conservation projects, thereby promoting the ESCO market in Vietnam.
Mr. Mai Van Huyen, Director of Green Development Center (Consulting Unit implementing the training course), introduced the training program.
Worldwide, the ESCO model has been successfully implemented in many countries, playing a crucial role in promoting energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, optimizing operational costs for businesses and sustainable development. For example, in the United States, the ESCO industry has flourished with large-scale projects in industrial and commercial sectors, supported by various government incentive programs. At Europe, numerous organizations have been established to support ESCOs, driving energy efficiency projects in industrial and public sectors. Especially in China - The world’s largest ESCO market, accounting for about 60% of the global ESCO industry, has seen rapid development, following government-driven energy-saving and emission reduction policies.
In Vietnam, the ESCO model is gaining increasing attention due to the rising demand for energy efficiency and conservation, government incentives, and the growing trend of sustainable business practices. Through this training program, the project aims to promote the ESCO model further, particularly in the southern region, and nationwide, contributing to sustainable development, greenhouse gas reduction, and environmental protection.
Energy experts and lecturers from the Project's consulting unit and Hanoi University of Science and Technology conduct specialized training modules throughout the course.
The training program lasts for three days, from March 18 to March 20, 2025, and will focus on key topics, including: (i) Enhancing capacity in identifying and developing energy efficiency projects; (ii) Energy auditing and financial analysis for energy efficiency projects; (iii) Introduction and application of the Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system; (iv) Marketing and business strategies for ESCOs and energy equipment suppliers (EESPs).
Participants in the training course include representatives from industrial and trade promotion centers, energy service providers, and energy equipment suppliers.
Throughout the training program, students will explore and analyze successful ESCO models globally, allowing them to derive practical lessons tailored to the Vietnamese context. Additionally, competency assessment tests are implemented to assist students in organizing their knowledge, enhancing their practical skills, and applying them effectively.
The "Vietnam Scaling Up Energy Efficiency Project (VSUEE)" is funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and implemented by the World Bank (WB) and the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT). Key Objectives: - Provide financial and technical support for energy efficiency (EE) projects. - Promote the ESCO market and green financing. - Reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to sustainable development. The VSUEE project plays a vital role in advancing green industry practices, optimizing energy costs, and supporting Vietnam’s sustainable development goals. |
