Encouraging businesses to use resources efficiently

“Encouraging small and medium businesses in developing countries to use resources effectively" is a pilot program which has been carried out by UNEP to reinforce manufacturing competence of these businesses to implement cleaner production and to use natural resources effectively, in the end, contributing to decreasing production costs, minimizing pollution, improving health and enhancing industrial safety.

Sustainable development is an indispensable trend for countries, which are all striving to work out an effective strategy for economic development that will ensure the survival of future generations, emphasized by Dr. Stefanos Fotiou, coordinator of UNEP.

“Encouraging small and medium businesses in developing countries to use resources effectively" is a pilot program which has been carried out by UNEP to reinforce manufacturing competence of these businesses to implement cleaner production and to use natural resources effectively, in the end, contributing to decreasing production costs, minimizing pollution, improving health and enhancing industrial safety.

 

According to corporate representatives, the toolkit in Vietnamese needs to be popularized in order to encourage efficient use of resources on a wider scale. At the same time, companies need to be constantly updated on incentive programs in environment protection such as environment protection funds, energy saving funds and clean production funds supported by various bodies.  

 

After one year of project implementation (1/6/2009-30/6/2010), many Vietnamese entrepreneurs have participated in training courses. As a result, improvement methods have positively been applied and successfully carried out by some entrepreneurs such as Dong Nam Paper Factory (Binh Duong), Recycle-plastic Factory of Nguyen Tan Company (Ho Chi Minh City), Food Producing Factory of Viet Quang seafood Company (Quang Nam), etc.
