Vietnam, Russia to cooperate in nuclear power

Cooperation on nuclear energy with Russia has a significant meaning, expressing the trust and strategic partnership defined between Vietnam and Russia. This was stated by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on receiving the General Director of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation, Sergei V. Kirienko, in Hanoi on September 3.

This was stated by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on receiving the General Director of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation, Sergei V. Kirienko, in Hanoi on September 3.


PM Dung spoke highly of the negotiations between the agencies in the two countries, especially the draft cooperation agreement to build the first nuclear power plant in Vietnam, which is scheduled to be signed when Russian President Dmitry Medvedev visits Vietnam in October.

He thanked Russia for training Vietnamese technical staff in building the nuclear power plant and research centres, and in the application of nuclear energy for peace, as well as for creating the technical supervision centres in Vietnam. 


General Director Kirienko expressed Rosamtom’s honour to be selected as a partner for building the first nuclear power plant in Vietnam.


He also provided positive results on negotiation issues related to the project including technology, materials, waste treatment and nuclear security.


On September 3, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations, Vu Xuan Hong, received in Hanoi a visiting delegation from Russia headed by Glandunov Evgheni Pavlovic, Honourary President of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association.



Hong hailed the guests and said that their visit was in time to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2), stressing that the former Soviet Union and Russia have always played important roles for Vietnam.
 


Glandunov Evgheni Pavlovic praised Vietnam’s achievements in its national renewal process and expressed the hope that his visit would contribute to boosting friendship between the two peoples. 


Host and guest expressed beliefs that, based on the traditional friendship between the Vietnamese and Russian people, their relationship would be enhanced and contribute to the development of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
