Mexico has opened a wind farm with a capacity of 155MW in Baja California.
Called Energia Sierra Juarez, it is said to be the first cross-border wind generation project between Mexico and the US. The $300 million (£189m) facility is operated by US energy company InterGen and a Mexican firm Ienova. Manufacturer Vestas provided 47 turbines with a capacity of 3.3MW each.
Neil H. Smith, InterGen’s President and CEO said: “The project is our first to generate power from wind, which will provide an important alternative source of renewable energy to southern California. “Renewable energy is an expected area of growth for us in the future.”
