Capacity Building for Managers of Seafood Industry Enterprises

30/09/2025

On the morning of September 29, 2025, the training course "Scaling Up Energy Efficiency for Managers of Seafood Industry Enterprises" within the framework of the VSUEE Project was held in Can Tho.

From September 29 to October 2, 2025, in Can Tho, the training course “Scaling Up Energy Efficiency for Managers of Seafood Industry Enterprises” under the framework of the Vietnam Scaling Up Energy Efficiency Project (VSUEE) was organized.
This is one of the key activities under Component 2: Technical Assistance of the VSUEE Project, aiming to support industrial enterprises in strengthening management capacity and effectively implementing energy efficiency (EE) solutions, thereby contributing to the national goal of energy efficiency and Vietnam’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The training course "Scaling Up Energy Efficiency for Managers of Seafood Industry Enterprises" was organized in Can Tho.
Energy efficiency in the fisheries sector
The fisheries sector currently accounts for a large share of Vietnam’s export turnover, while also being one of the most energy-intensive industries, particularly in processing, freezing, preservation, and cold storage operations. Research indicates that, when technological and management solutions are applied comprehensively, the fisheries sector still has significant potential for improving energy efficiency.
The training program was designed with in-depth content, focusing on practical knowledge and skills for enterprise managers, such as: identifying and developing energy efficiency projects, conducting energy audits, financial and technical analysis for EE projects, applying monitoring, reporting, and verification methods for energy savings, as well as business and marketing strategies.
Additionally, the program provided knowledge and solutions tailored to energy efficiency in the fisheries industry. Notable measures include: installing heat recovery systems; using chilled water directly instead of flake ice; optimizing cold system operations by regularly checking and maintaining equipment such as compressors, evaporators, and condensers; installing temperature and pressure sensors to monitor cooling performance and detect issues in time; optimizing steam systems by installing economizers and using effective insulation for pipes and valves; optimizing compressed air systems; installing rooftop solar systems for lighting and water heating; and applying energy management systems according to ISO 50001.
Participants in the training program are managers of seafood industry enterprises.
Fisheries enterprises – Acting for a green future
The training in Can Tho was an important opportunity for fisheries enterprises to strengthen capacity, update knowledge, and access modern management tools and technologies. Through this, enterprises can proactively build sustainable development strategies, not only optimizing energy costs but also enhancing their “green” brand reputation in the international market. With the support of the VSUEE Project, fisheries enterprises are expected to become pioneering nuclei in the energy transition journey, contributing to realizing the country’s green and sustainable development goals.
Implemented by the Ministry of Industry and Trade since 2022 with sponsorship from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) through the World Bank in Vietnam, the VSUEE Project aims to promote energy efficiency in key industrial sectors. Through capacity-building training courses for staff of industrial enterprises, the Project not only helps enterprises improve their energy management capacity but also lays the foundation for mobilizing green credit and investing in large-scale energy efficiency solutions.
