Scotland has launched its largest all-electric car club at the University of St Andrews.

A fleet of 10 Renault electric vehicles are available, with businesses, residents and visitors able to hire them by the hour from three different locations.

Members will have to pay a £50 joining fee for access to the scheme – and rental prices start at £4.50 per hour or £35 for 24 hours, which includes power and insurance.

The cars can travel around 65-90 miles on a single charge, putting Dundee and Edinburgh within easy reach, according to the university.

Derek Watson, Quaestor and Factor of the University of St Andrews said: “We hope that by offering access to a low carbon form of transport, we can work together to reduce the cost and environmental impact of each journey undertaken.”

The fleet adds to three existing electric vehicles operated in the town by the University of St Andrews.

E-Car Club runs electric car sharing initiatives across London, the South East and the Midlands.
