SEEC Implements Initiatives to Achieve Energy Savings in the Industrial Sector

26/11/2024

The industrial sector in the Kingdom consumes approximately 48% of the country's primary energy, with "energy-intensive" industries such as petrochemicals, cement, steel, and aluminium accounting for around 70% of this consumption.

In response, SEEC is working to enhance energy efficiency and resource utilization in these energy-intensive industries. The approach involves setting requirements and targets to improve energy efficiency in the industrial sector and monitoring the compliance of relevant companies with these requirements in collaboration with relevant government entities.

Energy intensity targets have been established for both existing and new factories in the Kingdom. SEEC is working to support these factories in achieving these targets through various phases. By the end of the first cycle of this initiative, savings of approximately 25,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day were achieved, with a target to reach additional savings of up to 54,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2025.

Furthermore, SEEC has studied other non-targeted industrial sectors and identified appropriate mechanisms to improve their energy efficiency. Due to the diversity and number of these sectors, the Energy Management Program was launched to enhance energy management systems in these areas, increasing awareness about the importance and benefits of such systems.

The Energy Management Program aims to achieve three main objectives: enabling various industrial establishments to achieve energy savings, promoting a culture of energy efficiency, and encompassing all sectors within the industrial field.

SEEC is committed to improving energy production, consumption, and management in the Kingdom across three main sectors: industry, buildings, and transportation. This is achieved by developing mechanisms and initiatives for each sector, defining indicators, goals, plans, and policies, as well as proposing energy efficiency system projects, issuing technical regulations, standards, and procedures in coordination with relevant entities
