Drayson Racing and Aston University have announced a collaboration to develop and demonstrate low carbon automotive technologies. The partnership will investigate 'second generation' biofuels produced from waste biomass such as straw, wood and sewage sludge to create high performance cars with reduced CO2 emissions.

Như vậy, từ 1.3 tới, giá điện bình quân sẽ tăng từ 1.077đ/kWh hiện nay lên 1.242đ/kWh, tương đương tăng 15,28%. Với mức tăng giá này, nhiều chi phí của EVN tiếp tục bị “treo lại” chưa phân bổ vào giá thành, tỉ suất lợi nhuận trên vốn nhà nước của EVN bằng 0 và giá than chưa tăng trong cơ cấu giá điện.

France’s solar-panel imports surged last year as developers relied mostly on foreign manufacturers to supply a boom in renewable-energy projects, Environment Minister Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet said. French customs figures show the deficit in favor of solar panel imports widened to 1.5 billion euros ($2.1 billion) in 2010 compared with 800 million euros the previous year, she said at a conference in Paris.

The global economic recovery will fuel ever greater demand for oil this year, with higher fuel prices expected to add a 15 percent burden on advanced economies, the IEA warned on Thursday. "Under current assumptions for global GDP, oil price and oil demand, the global oil burden could rise to 4.7 percent in 2011, getting close to levels that have coincided in the past with a marked economic slowdown," the International Energy Agency said in its latest monthly Oil Market Report.

Trên cơ sở triển khai kiểm toán năng lượng thí điểm tại một số nhà máy nhiệt điện và lập danh sách theo dõi việc sử dụng điện của trên 2.700 khách hàng sản xuất trọng điểm sử dụng từ 3 triệu kWh/năm trở lên đã phát hiện những khâu lãng phí, thất thoát điện năng, nhờ đó xây dựng các giải pháp cụ thể. Nhờ vậy, EVN đã giảm tỷ lệ tổn thất điện năng trong 5 năm gần đây lên trên 2,1 tỷ kWh. Các dự án cụ thể mà EVN đang tiến hành chủ yếu hướng tới lĩnh vực sử dụng điện trong sinh hoạt và dịch vụ thương mại.

Ông Trần Đức Hùng, Tổng Giám đốc EVN Hà Nội cho biết, đợt ra quân này được thực hiện từ ngày 8 - 18/2/2011. Trong đợt ra quân, Tổng công ty sẽ nâng cấp hệ thống lưới điện nông thôn thuộc các huyện Phúc Thọ, Ba Vì, Chương Mỹ, Ứng Hòa, Từ Liêm, Sơn Tây, Thanh Trì và củng cố lưới điện của các quận Hoàn Kiếm, Thanh Xuân, Cầu Giấy, Tây Hồ, Đống Đa, Hà Đông, Hoàng Mai.

Tính đến thời điểm này, mực nước các hồ thủy điện vẫn thấp hơn nhiều so với mực nước đầy hồ. Ước tính tổng lượng nước thiếu hụt để tích đầy các hồ là 12 tỉ m3, tương đương thiếu hụt 3 tỉ kWh sản lượng điện. Theo tính toán, năm 2011 cả nước thiếu khoảng 3 - 4 tỉ kWh (năm 2010 cả nước thiếu 1 tỉ kWh). Trong khi đó, riêng việc buộc phải xả 2,73 tỉ m3 nước các hồ thủy điện cho vụ đông xuân đã tiêu tốn của EVN khoảng 500 triệu kWh điện.

Panasonic đã thông báo, ngày 18/3/2011 họ sẽ phát hành 2 model bóng đèn LED EVERLEDS loại tiêu chuẩn có góc phân phối ánh sáng rộng (khoảng 300 độ) tại Nhật Bản. Góc phân bố cường độ sáng của đèn LED mới từ Panasonic khoảng 300 độ, gần như tương đương với các đèn sợi đốt sẽ cho phép chiếu sáng rõ ràng theo những hướng rộng.

Israel vừa phát hiện một mỏ khí đốt khổng lồ ở ngoài khơi vùng biển cách thành phố cảng Haifa của nước này khoảng 130km, với trữ lượng lớn chưa từng thấy. Mỏ khí đốt trên có tên Leviathan. Theo kết quả thăm dò do Công ty Noble Energy của Mỹ ước tính mỏ Leviathan có trữ lượng khoảng 450 tỷ mét khối khí tự nhiên.

Đặc biệt về việc xả nước đợt 1 phục vụ sản xuất vụ Đông Xuân 2010-2011, các tỉnh đồng bằng và trung du Bắc Bộ, các trạm bơm được cung cấp điện liên tục, ổn định; ba hồ Hòa Bình, Thác Bà và Tuyên Quang đã xả 1,37 tỷ m3 nước.

Havana Energy Ltd – part of the Esencia Group of companies - has teamed up with Zerus SA, a company linked to the Ministry of Sugar, to develop a pilot 30MW power plant at Ciro Redondo Sugar Mill, about 400km from Havana, and as a second stage four further power plants. The business will be developed in a joint venture company.

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) Group yesterday officially started construction on the second turbine of Song Tranh 2 hydropower plant with designed capacity of 95MW. The Song Tranh 2 hydropower plant project has been conducted by EVN Group as the main investor. It's the second hydropower plant to be built on Vu Gia-Thu Bon river system. It is expected that the hydropower plant will produce annual electricity output of 679.6 million KWh to join the national grid.

Researchers at the University of Leeds are developing a roasting process that would transform raw biomass from a bulky , water-saturated material into an energy-rich powder that is perfect for burning in coal-fired power plants. Called torrefaction, it is a relatively low-temperature process similar to that used in roasting coffee beans. If the researchers can overcome a few stumbling blocks, the process could lead to a new burst of coal-to-biomass power plant conversions, and consequently to lower greenhouse gas emissions.
