On September 8, 2010, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Energy Conservation Office organized a ceremony to present an energy label titled Vietnam Energy Star and hand over energy efficiency certifications to three compact lamp manufacturers: Dien Quang, Philips Vietnam and Rang Dong.

The Vinh Phuc Province Department of Science and Technology recently worked with the Promoting Energy Conservation in Small and Medium Scale Enterprise Project (PECSME) under the Ministry of Science and Technology to organize a training course on energy conservation in small and mediums-sized enterprises in the areas of textile-garment, food processing, paper and pulp.

According to Can Tho Energy Conservation Center, after six months of implementing energy efficiency projects and programs, many businesses in the city have had a change in awareness and actively participated in the implementation of energy saving measures. Since the beginning of the year, Can Tho City has saved over 9.5 million kWh of power.

Along with the development and renovation of the country, Hai Phong has been constantly renovating. Currently in the area, there are hundreds of large enterprises operating in such sectors as shipbuilding, cement manufacturing, steel production, etc with thousands of small and medium enterprises. The strong growth of businesses has brought about the increasing demand for energy.

A big energy consumer of Da Nang, in recent years, Hai Van Cement JSC has applied various solutions for energy efficiency and conservation. Hai Van cement is produced with fully automatic and synchronous technological line and equipment built by Krupp POLYSIUS of German.

Located in the district of Yen Thanh, Nghe An, Yen Thanh Tapioca Plant, directly under Engine and Agricultural Machinery Corporation in Nghe An, was established in 2003. During the past six years, the factory has always faced many problems of power consumption, emissions, waste water and environment pollution.

The project “Building Energy Efficient Biogas Cellars for Families in Phu Tho Province” was very successful. It was launched by the Phu Tho Center for Industry Promotion, Consultation and Energy Conservation, within the framework of the National Targeted Program on Energy Efficiency and Conservation.

The energy conservation exposition 2010 (ENCON EXPO 2010) featuring energy-efficient products and renewable energy will take place in Ho Chi Minh City from November 25-28.

According to statistics, currently, the number of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of Da Nang accounts for about 90% of total enterprises. Annually, the energy consumption of Da Nang is about 800 million kWh, in which, commercial electricity for production is about 700 million kWh. Besides, in the production process, large amounts of FO and DO oil used are also increasing every year.

Implementing the national target program on energy conservation and Decision of Tien Giang People's Committee on the implementation of energy efficiency in local area in period 2008 – 2015, Energy Efficiency Center - Department of Industry and Trade has organized various activities to promote efficient energy use in industry, especially in small and medium enterprises. In order to raise awareness of energy efficiency in the office, Tien Giang has used many bold solutions in a number of office buildings.

Engaging in the program of cleaner production and energy efficiency in industry of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, annually, the company saves billions of dong thanks to technical improvements, energy saving and environmental protection by a series of measures: internal management, lighting system improvement, and equipment replacement.

Operating under the General Department of Logistics, the Hong Ha Shipbuilding Company, which specializes in building and repairing means of marine transport, has applied many energy conservation methods. The company has undergone 14 years of development and become a big business of Hai Phong City in the field of shipbuilding with the annual production value of more than 550 billion.

That is precise data calculated on actual energy consumption for lighting of Vietnam announced by Dr. Vu Minh Mao, Chairman of Vietnam lighting association at the seminar "Effective Lighting and Energy Conservation "held in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh.

On the morning of June 15, 2010, in coordination with the Energy Conservation Office of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Infrastructure Department and the Urban Development Department of the Ministry of Construction, and the Vietnam Energy Efficient Public Lighting (VEEPL) project, the Vietnam Urban Lighting Association and the Anh sang & Cuoc song (Light & Life) magazine organized a workshop to discuss the role of the media in ensuring efficient use of energy for lighting purposes.

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Office, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Center will join hands with the Hanoi Women’s Union to host diverse training courses on energy efficiency and conservation for families living in the city’s 10 inner districts from June 23 to July 27, 2010, said the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade’s leadership in a press meeting on June 16, 2010.

Since 2008, the Board of Directors has decided to collaborate with the Energy Efficiency Research and Development Center – ENERTEAM in conducting energy audits at the company headquarter. Results showed that energy conservation potentials at the company are very promising, all solutions proposed required little investment and were easy to implement in practical application.

A component of the program to assist firms in energy conservation in the province, An Giang Scientific and Technological Advance Application Center has lately undertaken many positive actions such as: Organizing trainings, auditing, implementing energy saving, etc

Huynh Kim Tuoc, the director of the Ho Chi Minh City Energy Conservation Center, said, "Industries in Vietnam still consume exorbitant amounts of energy due to inefficiency." Statistics show that the energy efficiency at thermoelectric plants in Vietnam is about 28-32 percent while in developed countries this number is about 40 percent.

Through energy audit and the application of some solutions and models of the project “Investigate, assess, propose solutions and develop energy-saving models for a number of schools, hospitals, factories and flower farms of Lam Dong” implemented by Energy Conservation Center of Ho Chi Minh city, more than VND500 million has been saved and a large amount of CO2 emission which causes greenhouse effect has been reduced.

Quang Nam is a coastal province, located in the key economic area of the Central, with the natural area of 10,408 km2, 18 district-level administrative units and the population of 1.5 million people. After more than 10 years of re-establishment, the local economy has changed a lot with many outstanding achievements.
