Da Nang to implement energy conservation in small and medium enterprises
18/08/2010
According to statistics, currently, the number of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of Da Nang accounts for about 90% of total enterprises. Annually, the energy consumption of Da Nang is about 800 million kWh, in which, commercial electricity for production is about 700 million kWh. Besides, in the production process, large amounts of FO and DO oil used are also increasing every year.
According to statistics, currently, the number of small and
medium enterprises (SMEs) of Da Nang
accounts for about 90% of total enterprises. Annually, the energy consumption of
Da Nang is about
800 million kWh, in which, commercial electricity for production is about 700
million kWh. Besides, in the production process, large amounts of FO and DO oil
used are also increasing every year.
Being aware that this level of energy consumption could be reduced,
in 2007, Da Nang
engaged in the project "Promoting Energy Conservation in Small and Medium
Scale Enterprises” (PECSME). "Its goal during the period 2007-2010 is to
implement the at least 35 energy efficiency projects, save over 1500 TOE, and reduce
14,600 tons of CO2 emissions," according to Mr. Nguyen Ba Vinh - PECSME
project manager.
To achieve these goals, a series of activities was deployed
in Da Nang.
Specifically, the project has started to conduct energy audit in nine
companies. Results showed that the saving potential in these 9 businesses was
up to VND2.1 billion per year. From these results, the project started to
organize seminars, training sessions on energy efficiency for 41 enterprises in
Da Nang in the
fields of paper and paper materials production, aquatic products processing,
food processing, ceramics production, and textiles.
Besides, the project also implemented energy efficiency measures
in public lighting, school lighting and hotel lighting. After a series of
activities, the results obtained up to now are very promising.
Specifically, one of the companies to apply energy efficiency
solutions of Da Nang
is Royal Hotel. Previously, with the use of many electrical devices such as
lighting systems, decorating lights, air conditioners, power consumption was
always extremely high.
Previously, the hotel had to pay VND40-50 million for
electricity monthly. Participating in PECSME project, a series of energy saving
measures such as replacing 40W lamps with8W ones, installing solar cells for hot water system have been made. And
currently, although the number of hotel rooms has doubled, while the hotel has
built 5 more apartments, dancing floors and a massage center with nearly 30
rooms, it still only pays the amount of money equal to the amount before joining
the energy efficiency project which is around VND50 million per month.
Another example of success after the application of simple
energy efficiency measures is Thanh Dat Textile Company. Featuring a textile
company, power consumption of this enterprise is mainly in lighting.
However, with the use of various energy consuming
incandescent bulbs and fluorescent bulbs, this company had to pay a lot of
money for lighting monthly. So, the company has replaced the entire fluorescent
bulbs with energy saving halogen lights, while lowering lights from close to
the ceiling to 1.2 m lower. By doing so, the business has dropped more than 1/3
of bulbs, but the lighting quality has been a lot better.
"With these radical measures which received high
consensus of businesses, until now, when the project is coming to an end, the
targets have been almost fulfilled. By the end of this year, when the project
ends, results are expected to be higher than the original targets," said Mr.
Vinh when evaluating energy efficiency measures in Da Nang.
Many businesses in Thua Thien Hue Province have adjusted their operations, shifting production to off-peak hours and optimizing equipment to support the power sector’s electricity efficiency initiatives.
The synchronized application of management solutions, improvement initiatives, and investments in new technical technologies has helped Vnsteel Thang Long Coated Steel Joint Stock Company save 469,806 kWh, equivalent to an energy-saving rate of 16.2%.
Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) launched the competition “Accelerating Innovative Startups for Energy Efficiency Competition”.
On September 12, 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in collaboration with the Danish Energy Agency and the Danish Embassy, organized a technical seminar on “Consultation on industrial cooling catalogue, ventilation catalogue, heat recovery and heat pump guideline”. This seminar is part of the Energy Partnership programme between Vietnam and Denmark 2020 - 2025 (Depp3), funded by the Danish government.
On the morning of September 10 in Bac Ninh, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), held an awareness workshop on "Energy management system and system optimization adoption".
Paper industry enterprises account for about 5% of total energy consumption across all industrial sectors, focusing on three key products: packaging paper, tissue paper, and uncoated printing and writing paper.
On the afternoon of September 9, 2024, in Hanoi, a technical consultation meeting titled "Research Methods for Energy Usage Standards Development and Amendment in the Steel Industry" was organized.
Energy costs account for 20-30% of total production expenses in the paper and pulp manufacturing sector. Experts believe that the potential for energy savings in this industry is substantial.
