Authorities have pledged to speed up construction of green buildings in response to the surge in building energy consumption that has resulted from the country's rapid urbanization. The 27-nation bloc could make 90 billion liters (24 billion gallons) of so-called next-generation ethanol in 2020, about 65 percent of predicted fossil gasoline use, the London-based group said in a study. At least 100 refineries a year could be built in the bloc from 2013, it said. The EU currently has no commercial factories that refine biofuels from plant waste.

A report published by an Indian Defense ministry-backed think tank has proposed for the establishment of an international space-based solar energy program with India and the United States initiating this massive project. The report is prepared by Peter Garretson, a US Air Force lieutenant colonel, working with the Institue of Defense Studies and Analyses, New Delhi. The reports calls for the Indian and the United States’ governments to extend their strategic partnerships to initiate this pathbreaking project and make the space-based solar energy a commercially viable business venture by 2025.

The project entitled, “Studying, Designing and Manufacturing Large-Diameter, Non-Rotary Pipe-Connection Automatic Welding Equipment Systems” was checked and accepted on September 11 in Hanoi. Dr Hoang Van Chau from the National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering is the director of the project with the technology for manufacture of pressure pipelines for small and medium-sized hydropower projects.

The Swiss manufacturer Trunz Water Systems and a California-based reverse osmosis company, Spectra Watermakers have developed a new eco-friendly water purifier designed for use in disaster stricken areas where conventional energy sources are unavailable or too expensive. The new system, called the Solar Container, is capable of generating more than 8,000 gallons of potable water per day and is powered by renewable wind and solar energy.

A new hybrid gas-wind turbine called SmartGen has been designed to work on low winds based on a system that turns the turbine with compressed air from a compressor running on biogas. The Colorado company that introduces this concept is expecting to create wind turbines that generate turbines even when there is almost no wind.

On 8th September, at the head office of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, leaders of the Ministry granted the certificate of energy-saving products which are energy labeled for the group of compact light products of three dominant manufacturers of Vietnam, including Dien Quang Lamp Joint Stock Company, Philips Electronic (Vietnam) Co Ltd and Rang Dong Joint Stock Company.

Iron and steel production remains one of the strengths of Bac Ninh. Preliminary investigations have shown that there are over 800 steel enterprises in Chau Khe, Dinh Bang, including 100 steel tempering facilities, 80 steel rolling facilities, 50 steel dragging and drawing facilities, 150 recycled embryo rolling facilities and other metals production facilities. The field of steel tempering and rolling alone provides 200,000 tons of steel ingot; 200,000 tons of rolled steel to the market annually, which brings about VND200,000 billion per year.

Neo Solar Power Corporation, one of the leading solar cell makers has recently unveiled its new plant within The Southern Taiwan Science Park, according to The China Post. The new factory is expected to have a 3.4 GW capacity, almost 1 GW more compared to the capacity produced by all Taiwanese manufacturers.
