Facing the shortage of power sources in the North and oversupply in the Central and Southern regions, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade's assessment, if the large power sources under construction continue to be behind schedule, the level of power shortage in 2025 can reach up to 10.8 billion kWh. Therefore, ensuring the progress of power sources under construction is extremely important for ensuring the security of electricity supply in the period 2021-2025.

Based on the assessment of the electricity supply situation in the coming time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and EVN have proposed five main solutions to ensure electricity supply.

The second generator of Son La hydropower plant on Tuesday successfully started its test operation, paving the way for its official commissioning with a capacity of 400MW on April 20. With the forthcoming operation of Generator 2, Son La will supply some 20 million kilowatt hours of power for the national grid a day to ease the power shortage for the country in this dry season, said the management board of Son La plant.

Siemens Healthcare is developing a solar power solution, which would support the medical imaging equipments including MRI, CT, ultrasound scanning and X-ray systems. The company said this would largely help the centres located at the rural parts of the country, where power shortage is high.
