Beanergi collects waste from coffee shops in the capital and processes it in its facility, which has a production capacity of 50,000 tonnes per year. That produces around 260GWh of renewable energy which can power as many as 1,750 coffee shops.
Once the waste is collected, it is put through a machine and then dried following which it is converted into energy pellets.Ben Beckers (pictured), CEO and Founder of the company said the project benefits both the environment and businesses.

He told ELN: “It reduces their cost. Coffee energy is half the cost of electricity. A coffee pellet costs 5p per kilowatt while electricity costs 13p per kilowatt. The second benefit is the environmental benefit so you get clean green energy source.” More than 200,000 tonnes of coffee waste is produced by London’s coffee industry.
