Enbridge in partnership with First Solar have designed the most impressive and largest photovoltaic facility in the world, an 80-megawatt solar project and have recently presented it in Ontario, Canada.

The facility, dubbed Sarnia Solar, is made up of 1.3 million solar panels that are set on a surface of 950 acres and deliver an annual 120,000 MWh. The Sarnia Solar Project integrates solar panels “designed to create the smallest carbon footprint of any PV technology available.”

The project, which created 800 jobs, is expected to deliver enough electricity to meet the demands of 12,800 households. The electricity will be distributed to residents from Ontario, as the Ontario Power Authority has already set an agreement with the producing companies to buy the power generated for the next 20 years.

The Ontario Minister of Energy, Brad Duguid, has already declared himself proud of the solar project, “The Sarnia Solar Project is an example of the kinds of renewable energy projects that have been developed under the Government of Ontario’s Green Energy Act. Ontario can now boast the largest solar farm in North America – it is projects like this one that are making us a leader in renewable energy and helping us all move towards a cleaner energy future.”

One of the companies which are part of this major project is Enbridge, a North American company valued as one of the most profitable and sustainable corporations, that has brought a significant contribution to renewable energy innovations. Its partner, First Solar, is a renowned solar photovoltaic manufacturer that is in charge with the maintenance of the photovoltaic facility.
