Since unit 1 went into operation in October 2008, A Vuong hydropower plant (with the capacity of 210 MW) has produced nearly 1.8 billion kWh, equivalent to the revenue of about VND 1,150 billion.
According to Mr Nguyen Tram, General Director of A Vuong Hydropower JSC, thanks to the advantage of using high water columns, the mobilization of the capacity of A Vuong hydropower plant and the generation of power based on the height of water columns will be very effective.
However, the difficulty of the plant in supplying power this year is that the amount of water in reservoirs is not sufficient according to calculated data due to the drought or the absence of main floods.

According to Mr Nguyen Tram, the water level of A Vuong reservoir on December 9th was 370m (corresponding to the capacity of 256 million m3), but normally, the water level is 380m (corresponding to the capacity of 343 million m3), so it has been expected that about 26% of water capacity will be deficient, corresponding to 60 million kWh for the next year.
A Vuong plant has not discharged water since September 2009 due to the lack of water. The plant has discussed with Quang Nam province about the power generation program of the company to cooperate with the locality in planning the power generation schedule to make the generation more effective.
Also according to Mr Tram, with the specific characteristics of the central region, if late rain occurs in January, the plant will have more water on the reservoir. Then, the power supply will be improved.
