According to statistics, Vietnam's steel industry currently uses obsolete technologies resulting in more energy consumption than the world average level. For example, during sintering, Vietnam’s average energy consumption rate is 3.02 GJ / ton, whereas EU countries consume 1.7 GJ / ton; during cast iron refining, the average consumption of Vietnamese South is 29.45 GJ / ton, whereas EU countries is 13.17 GJ / ton; during steel refining, the average consumption is about 3.41 to 3.67 GJ / ton, while  in developed countries, this consumption is 2.3 to 2.6 GJ / ton.

At this conference, Vietnam manufacturers can learn from the international experience in management and production in order to help Vietnam's steel industry to have a sustainable development.

Mr. Patrick Gilabert - UNIDO Representative in Vietnam, said many years ago, UNIDO has supported the Ministry of Industry and Trade in developing programs for energy efficiency and responding to climate change. In the framework of Project environmental management policy advice: Development of green industry is being implemented in Vietnam, UNIDO is also willing to share their experience in developing a roadmap for sustainable industrial development especially in the steel industry.
