Building a green economy is necessary for Viet Nam to realize her sustainable development roadmap in the current context, said a senior official.
Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen The Phuong made the statement at the Conference announcing the Viet Nam National Strategy for Green Growth in Ha Noi on October 29.
This strategy proves the Vietnamese Government’s determination in implementing green and sustainable growth goals, said World Bank Country Director for Viet Nam Victoria Kwakwa.
The WB commits to supporting Viet Nam to launch best projects aimed at green growth.
The Viet Nam National Strategy for Green Growth was ratified by the PM in Decision No. 1393/QĐ-TTg dated on September 25, 2012.
According to the strategy, Viet Nam will reduce in 2011-2020 its greenhouse gas emissions by 8-10% compared to 2010, energy consumption by 1-1.5% each year.
By 2030, Viet Nam aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 1.5-2% every year.
