Dong Nai tries to ensure sufficient power

Dong Nai with its many industrial parks consumes a large amount of power.

Dong Nai with its many industrial parks consumes a large amount of power. The industrial sector in particular makes up 78 percent of all power consumption. In the event that power is insufficient, businesses will be adversely affected. In consideration of this, the Dong Nai Power Co. Ltd. has put in place a variety of measures to ensure sufficient power in the 2013 dry season.

Dong Nai Power Co., Ltd. Director Nguyen Ngoc Thanh said that the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) had predicted that the south would lack power in the 2013 dry season as the demand would keep increasing, while the national power grid would not expand.

For this reason, the company plans to provide 8.5 billion kWh this year, a 9.17 percent increase on 2012. It has called on about 300 major industrial customers to run electric generators and restrict high-capacity electric equipment during peak hours in cases where power supply is insufficient. The company has also encouraged people to save power at peak hours.

It is predicted that Dong Nai Province will lack power during the April-June period this year. The Tri An Hydropower Company said that its existing four turbines were operating normally ensuring sufficient water for domestic use and desalination. The company also said that the water level in the Tri An Lake was normal and was able to ensure normal electric generation in the short term.

The Nhon Trach 2 Power Plant is expected to work in a stable, safe and effective manner. After the plant produced commercial power from October 16, 2011 to March 19, 2013, it has generated almost 7.7 billion kWh. The plant provided almost 1.3 billion kWh in the first quarter of this year reaching 117 percent of what was projected for the period. Particularly, to ensure sufficient power supply in the 2013 dry season, the PetroVietnam Power Nhon Trach 2 Joint Stock Company, which has invested in the Nhon Trach 2 Power Plant, has operated its turbines at full capacity, while closely coordinating with the National Load Dispatch Center (Ao), the Southern Load Dispatch Center (A2), the EVN's power transmission and trading facilities and PV Gas’ South East Gas Transmission Company to connect, measure and control gas and power systems. By providing more than 4.2 billion kWh annually for the national grid, the Nhon Trach 2 Power Plant has played an important role in ensuring national energy security.

Apart from providing sufficient power for production and domestic use, related agencies in Dong Nai Province are carrying campaigns to improve users' understanding of power conservation and efficiency. Many high-performance power saving models have been launched in the province such as power saving villages, power saving families and power saving schools, which have caught great attention from the community. The local media has also contributed to improving people's understanding of power conservation and efficiency.

The Dong Nai Power Company Ltd. said that the province saved 112 million kWh in 2012 and expected to save 2.1 percent of commercial power in 2013.
